Unfortunately for you, the GPU's cooler is designed to pull air from the bottom of the case, and push it out the back of the case using the case's ambient airflow and the shaping of the heatsink. It will not dissipate over the GPU, it will not pass through the card and go out that way, and I'd say that the grate at the bottom would be a safe investment.
