Okay, so I've been stuck using a very crappy Pentium for about 4 years now. I want to build a computer that is going to be mainly used for dolphin. I want to max out on Dolphin. My goal is to run Melee, Paper Mario TTYD, Project M and a few other Wii titles at 4k with anti-aliasing, or whatever I can get out of my buck.

I was thinking these specifications:
Intel Core i7-4790k @4.0ghz (soon OC to around 4.7-4.9ghz)
16gb of G-Skill Rip Jaw DDR3 ram
EVGA GTX 980 Superclocked 4GB.

What do you guys think? I want an honest opinion, any recommendations? Big Grin

If you just want Dolphin, you can save money by getting the G3258 and a Z97 board, and OC to 4.6-4.7 Ghz and have it perform like the i7-4790K at like 4.2-4.3

This.

Or get an i5 4690k. There's really no need to get the i7, for what your planning on doing with your PC the i7 is just a "status symbol".

I would say go for the G3258 though and stick the money you saved into something else.

I would recommend G3258 + R9-290x

Why? The GTX 980 destroys that card, never mind the fact that they want the Superclocked 980.

Edit: You can look through them all yourself, I don't feel like posting a bunch of links haha

If you're going to spend that much then your setup looks good. As said before, the i7 isn't really needed for Dolphin, so you can save around $100+ or so if you 'step down' to the 4690K. Otherwise if you do rendering, (video) encoding, etc, then keep the i7. Stick with the GTX980 if you can afford it, otherwise the GTX970, despite having slower bandwidth in the last 500mb vram segment is still a great purchase.

That price cut is not happening worldwide. Just FYI.

Good thing we're talking about the 980 and not the 970 Wink

Kinda figuring since there's going to be a potential savings of a couple hundred bucks if they go with the Pentium, and about a hundred if they go with the i5, why not still go with arguably the best GPU on the market?

The GTX 980 doesn't destroy the R9-290x at all. In an Nvidia title it's only 2 FPS faster. Who pays $200 for the same expirence? Fanboys.

The 290x is a better purchase considering how you can find them for less then the 970 (at least in america) with better performance.
