There's a few reasons why downloading games are illegal, even if you own them (It's legal in some countries because of lacking copyright laws, but few people lives there)
First of all, is that the people sharing you the game, is breaking the law by distributing it. By downloading the game you contribute to them breaking the law. (And you "support" them) Also the games have specific regions (PAL version and NTSC version are two different products, also there's country codes, so in court they may say you didn't have the original product if you downloaded another version than yours)
the above is just the obvious I could think off. Anyway, for the forum's sake, all discussion of downloading game is forbidden due to contract with the host, which obviously doesn't want affiliation with any possible illegal activity.
