I plan on building a computer to run Dolphin and to play games on the PC. However, I have read that AMD CPUs can have a difficult time trying to run Dolphin. The reason I'm concerned is that the PC I'm trying to build is essentially an AMD one. Here's a link to the rig I plan on building:

Will this be able to play most of the games supported by Dolphin? Or am I going to have to make some changes to the rig?

Thanks in advance!

Not with that cpu. Dolphin can only use two cores and AMD cpu's have slow single thread performance. Replace it with an i5 4690k/i7 4790k if you want to run all demanding games full speed.

You'll probably be able to play lightweight/medium games. Post which games you want to play.

This is around 1000 USD, but will be miles better if you can stand the ugly gpu.

The games that I plan on playing are followed:

Gamecube:
F-Zero GX
Mario Kart: Double Dash
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Super Smash Bros. Melee
The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess
Tales of Symphonia

Wii:
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles
Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2
New Super Mario Bros.

There's probably more, but they aren't all coming to mind at the moment.

[img][Image: dolphin.jpg][/img]I would probably recommend getting an intel build, there is a great deal of performance difference between amd and intel for dolphin. Look at the difference in performance between a highly overclocked 8320e and a stock 4690k on anand's test of the original dolphin benchmark.

Here's a build that uses an i5-4790K and the same case/GPU/HDD that you picked. You don't need a 750 W power supply, so I dropped that down, and then changed the CPU/mobo/RAM/PSU to Intel compatible parts/cheaper but still good parts. Now it's only slightly more expensive than your build after the rebates.

Get out.

Happy? Tongue
The OP didn't have one, and my brain didn't think of it when I was modifying his build.

lololol

Seriously though, with the games you're planning on playing, if you go with AMD you're going to have a bad time. I don't really have anything else to add because other people have posted solid builds that my only modifications would be for the sake of brand preference. 750W PSU is overkill though, the money saved by going with the 550W can be put into either a hybrid drive or a slightly better video card.

Also, Windows 8.1? Ew Tongue
