I was screwing around with the Paths, and I messed up my Wii NAND root. Now none of my save files work. Can someone please tell me what the path is supposed to be?
I messed up, please help

It should be:
C:\Users\gmanpizza\Documents\Dolphin Emulator\Wii In general the folder: C:\Users\gmanpizza\Documents\Dolphin Emulator contains all settings and savedata. If you are messing around with this stuff, it's a good idea to make a backup of it. 06-24-2017, 11:00 AM
You can also make a blank text file and name it portable.txt and it will make the paths all the dolphin folder (the one with dolphin's .exe) and then all you really have to copy is the CG and Wii save files to ...\(Dolphin's folder name)\User
Personally I find doing this makes it much easier to keep track of files for backup purposes and so I can run a stable version and the latest development build at the same time for maximum compatibility and features.
@TKSilver - the user is trying to find their existing files, please wait until after they have found the files before telling them about alternative locations. You'll confuse them, but it's just generally unhelpful. If someone has lost their carkeys and is frantically looking for them, and you tell them that if they had a magnetic key tray they wouldn't have this problem while just watching them search, you aren't helping them find the carkeys!
Not to mention you didn't mention any of the downsides of portable.txt, like how much harder it is to move between dolphin versions. ...and having all of the files in a single location forever is way easier to find then whatever your dolphin folder is! I apologize, I was more commenting on idea that it is good to make a backup of your files if you are going to mess around with them from mimimi's post since mimimi had already pointed out very nicely where the files could be found. I was not trying to add confusion just offer a way that the user could more easily mess with Dolphin's files and while still having a working version since shared files would not be involved. As far as the downsides I guess with the way I personally organize my computer I never considered finding the dolphin folder to be an issue (it sits in a folder on the C: root labeled Emulators) and the portable ability allows for me to customize files and test things by simply making a copy of one folder and not having to worry about messing up multiple versions with any changes I test. It does involve copying over save files (i avoid copying save states over just in case those might lead to instability in different versions) to each version if I want that save to work in each version and updating that save file anytime I am finished with a session if I want it to be accessible, which is a bit of work (though I did forget that since I copy my saves up to my NAS for backup purposes anyways and just do the copying by force of habit at this point). I do see how for some users, the downsides you mentioned might apply and also might be more trouble then the benefits gained. |
