I recently came to the conclusion that playing Gamecube games on my laptop would be rather awesome, hence how I found out about Dolphin.

Unsuprisingly, unlike Project64, you need a system that isn't a complete heap of shit.

Now, to be quite honest, I don't even know what a "system" really is. I don't know what a processor is. I don't know what a driver is. Although i'm utterly dependent on a computer, I haven't the faintest idea how they really work.

I'm hoping that if I post a load of numbers under here, you guys could tell me if my laptop is capable of running Dolphin.

Operating System - Windows 7 32 bit
Processor - Pentium Dual Core CPU
Memory - 3000+ram
DirectX version - 11

Graphics? - Mobile Intel 4 series express chipset family (i've researched this, and am aware that this probably isn't good enough, anything I can do?)

I am willing to spend £20/£30 (around $50) on stuff if required.

If anyone can help me out please bear in mind that I probably won't understand anything mildly complicated!!

One more while i'm at it - will my xbox 360 controller work like I use it for project 64?

Thanks a bunch in advance.
I have a feeling people are laughing at me right now.

Been reading similar threads and their processors and CPUs and such seem much bigger, yet they were still concerned!

Guess i'll be needing a budget of considerably more than 30 quid.

yea... um pentium cpus are pretty old now, and i'm guessing your clock speed (the number in GHz) is also pretty low. Anything over 2.5 is decent but even so, pentium cpus perform worse than more modern cpus, even at the same clock speed. And what do you mean by 3000+ ram, does that mean that you have 3GB of ram? Mobile Intel 4 graphics isn't too good either, you really need a dedicated modern gpu to run dolphin well. So, yeah, you will need to spend more than 30 pounds on a new computer to run dolphin well. Older laptops, especially ones like yours, don't lend themselves to cpu or gpu intensive tasks and if you really want to play gamecube games, the best option for you is to either buy a gamecube or upgrade to a better computer, preferably a desktop computer with more modern hardware (the latter option being quite expensive).

You actually happen to sound more aggressive than him.

We can't explain EVERYTHING to him, that totally does not belong to an emulation forum (maybe to Delfino Plaza if anything). If anyone expects us to answer questions, we should be able to expect others to use some common sense to figure out as much as possible by oneself, shouldn't we?

1. no.
2. true, but you've also got to treat people nicely and not insult them just because they don't understand something, it's basic respect.

Cheers guys Smile

I notice that a lot of people "build" there own computers, is there places to purchase computers that are already high spec? Probably a stupid question, but the kinda of stuff i'll need seems quite specific.

Is there hardware/software that I could buy to use straight onto my laptop, or would it be basically cheaper to just start out fresh?
