Hello, I want to download the stable version of Dolphin (4.0) but I would like the zipped version without an installer that all files created by the emulator are created in the root folder. Where can I find it because I searched the site and did not find it.
I have a question about downloading Dolphin

Stable releases are published only with installers. However, since we use NSIS for the installer, you can unzip it with 7-Zip or other suitable application...

But is there any configuration of the options that make all the files created by the emulator be saved in the root folder? 02-06-2020, 04:52 PM
Create an empty file named "portable.txt" on the same folder where Dolphin.exe is located. Dolphin will then store all user data into an "User" subfolder...

Keep in mind that if there are any issues running any games you will not get support on it on the forums. Dolphin 4.0 is over 6 years old right now.
If you want any support the Earliest version you can use would be 5.0, but keep in mind that even that stable version is more than 3.5years old and many of the bugs and issues you find in there are already fixed in the dev-version. Thus what happens when you ask for support is us telling you to update to the latest dev-version. Also keep in mind that "Stable" doesn't actually mean stable anymore, the dev-version has over 11.500 update's, fixes and patches which actually makes it faster and more stable than the "Stable" version. Also keep in mind to always download your Dolphin from the Dolphin site and nowhere else: https://dolphin-emu.org/download/ And if you create an empty portable.txt in the same folder as the dolphin.exe is located you will have all your settings and save games and everything saved inside the Dolphin folder.

With software versioning, stable just means that there are no new bugs in existing features (regressions), so everything that used to work still works unless it's been removed entirely. This is really important for things like software libraries, as programs that rely on behaviour in their dependencies staying the same could break if it didn't. It's also a nice thing to know about application software as it means you know you've only got fixes and new features in a particular version. However, with something as complicated as Dolphin, proving there are no regressions can take absolutely ages, and while you're doing that, you can't let new code in except to fix discovered regressions or you'd potentially let in new ones and have to start testing again. This is usually done with a feature freeze (where nothing gets done and all the developers get sad) or by creating a separate release branch (which means everyone ignores it as the exciting new stuff doesn't happen on the release branch). Neither of these are particularly helpful, especially when things are already getting done, so it's a very low priority for Dolphin.
