Still no phone yet. I hope Fedex doesn't take it back and wait until Monday or Tuesday to deliver. :/

According to the tracking/shipping on the Fedex website the phone was loaded on the truck for delivery this morning around 7:00 AM. It's coming from the next city over as that's where the local FedEx is located, the next city over (Syracuse) is about 20 - 30 miles away.

To play movies and videos you're going to have to convert your files to mp4, that's what I had to do due to the phone's limited supported file formats. Your phone looks the same.

I'm trying to root but the rooting app isn't working for some odd reason. I just updated to the latest Android software, wondering if z4root is compatible with Gingerbread..

Not sure, gotta look around and maybe find something else then. You probably should have left Froyo installed.

I followed the instructions here to root:

http://www.droid-life.com/2011/03/29/how-to-root-gingerbread-on-droid-x/

After step 17 when I installed the rooted Gingerbread update, do I need to install the D2 Bootstrapper mentioned in step 21 or is that only if I wanted to install a newer rooted update when it's available?

What are some good apps and emulators that are not available in the marketplace? Should I also install Cyanogen mod?

Is there any alternative place to download some emulators? Nesoid, Snesoid, GBAoid have been removed from the marketplace.

Don't worry about the bootstrapper, download "Titanium backup" instead. Titanium backup has a few functions, one is to backup apps and another is that it can remove apps that are normally not able to be removed. Make sure you do some research before uninstalling certain apps, your phone may not work properly if you delete some.

I haven't used Cyanogen mod, you'll have to find out for yourself.

There are places to download emulators, but I'd rather not get into that here. I have Nesoid and Snesoid and they work flawlessly.

I'll post some apps a bit later.

I already installed the bootstrapper for Droid X though. Can I safely uninstall and install Titanium backup without affecting anything?

Yeah. Make sure to enable usb debugging when using it. Turn off usb debugging when not using it.

I'm skeptic to all these new generation phones that isn't a phone anymore but more like an add-on.

I still have my red Sony Ericsson w910i that's really used and not long ago I used an Ericsson T39 which I still have as an backup in case the "new" one breaks.

But of course I wish you all good luck with your newer acquisitions!

I only hope that I don't have to use one of those in the future.
