I can map the PS3 controller, but can play

As the subject states, I am trying to play using a PS3 Sixaxis controller. I have done it in the past about a year ago but am just now getting back into emulation and for the life of me cant figure out what I am doing wrong. Dolphin lets me map all the controls without a hitch, but when I go to play a game, nothing responds. Is there some simple setting I need to turn on, what am I missing? any help would be appreciated

If you're trying to play a Wii game (other than Brawl or other GCpad-supporting games) you'd best either set up an emulated or real Wii Remote.

If you're trying to play a GameCube game, you should check if Config > GameCube > Port 1 is set to Standard Controller. That tends to reset itself to None when you use the same settings files between 3.0 and later releases.
