Parts arrived today. Probably will be unable to assemble until tomorrow or the day after, but will keep this tab open to update when assembled. (Or until assembly attempted. Whatever the case may be. )

The machine is now assembled sans a harddrive. I found a $90 2tb HDD and just got paid so I splurged on it. It should be here Tuesday and I can see how the machine performs.

I found it on Dealzmodo and it was located here but the link is dead now. I suppose they sold out.

New HDD was DOA. In the process of testing it in another PC to verify this, I managed to pull another drive out before it had fully powered down resulting in a corrupted file table (doh!). This is becoming much more of a hassle than anticipated. Will update again when the machine is running.

Nice build, good for those (like me) that don't have a lot to spend on a PC.

HTPC now assembled and running awesomely. I have not over-clocked it yet, but I haven't run Dolphin yet, either. Without OC it runs perpetually practically silently. Dolphin install scheduled for tomorrow.

This went very well. The machine works like a champ. It has since mostly devolved into strictly an XBMC HTPC for the 47'' flat screen in the living room, but it can still play wii and gamecube games at speed.
The adapter I was using for 4 player multiplayer on the gamecube did not have a proper 64 bit driver so I can only play 1 player at a time on it until I buy a new one. Actually the new adapter (I use Playstation 2 to USB adapters) arrived a few weeks ago but I forgot about it. The Wii worked great though. I only tested Mario Party, and (I believe) Punch Out before my interests wandered over to another project I'm working on, but in theory it should work fine for the other playable games as well. |
