Does anyone know why I am getting a black screen when trying to boot the Wii system menu?
[Howto] NAND Dumping - A Comprehensive Guide

My Wii menu takes a moment to actually show anything, then does the usual song and dance about warnings, etc. I've got 3.3U, I don't know if it breaks on 4.0 or up though.
As for the dumping, if you're doing the raw dump and then extract, a few things to note: the raw dump takes a while, mine took a good half-hour on my Wii. Do note that if you don't have proper permissions (say you've got the post-Oct 23 updates and no way to downgrade) then in my experience the NAND dump will complete, but not properly, or with some areas corrupted. If this happens, the dump will fail to extract. I'll also note that zestig is *Very very* touchy, you need to have a proper dump and all the files in just the right places or it will crash without any warning or information about what went wrong. It's not a foolproof program, the person who wrote it didn't have mass distribution in mind. ^_^ The 8 folders that you received look like the folders that I got from my dump, so my guess is those are the folders you need. You should be able to use any .wad packer and turn the files you got in your /title folder into the channels on your Wii. Do note that, although Dolphin can now see your dump, it still isn't able to boot the Wii OS after a game, and I don't know why. If you select the option to return to the Wii menu, and then actually boot the wii menu after the game hangs, it skips the health and warning screen just like on real hardware. Just, something's not going on right emulation wise to make the jump into the new title directly from the game. You might actually try this if the wii menu was booting for you, and now is not, as the game might reset some things before it tries to load it.

I skipped over zestig and used Wanikoko's dumper instead, then transferred the files from my Wii to my PC. I couldn't get the wii_nand_without_eec.img to dump with zestig, perhaps I was doing something wrong since the instructions were already a bit vague and confusing to me.
My Wii was originally 3.4U, then I downgraded to 3.2U to install wads, use the disk dumping channel and playing my legal backups. For some reason I just get a black screen when trying to boot the Wii menu, and I am not sure as to why exactly.
Why is it when ever i have a go making a nand dump of my Wii's OS i keep getting this for a file!
"zestig.exe.stackdump" :-? With file size 0 bytes. 05-28-2009, 02:58 AM
I too am getting a black screen. I get a dialog box saying unknown region (my region isNTSC-U) then goes to black screen. I have yet to try the newest build of dolphin. I used wanikoko's FSdumper. I was unable to get a dump to extract with zesting. I d/led a PAL dump that too used wani's FSDumper and was ale to get to the health warning screen but black screen after that.

It's nice that people are posting or uploading their file system dumps that contains their credit card information and other personal details, please excuse me while I go use some poor saps credit card information to purchase some personal items for myself.
some people obviously don't think of that. lol
on the other hand my dump (NTSC 4.0) doesn't work I get the black screen when loading title/00000001/00000002/content. I have narrowed it down to the files in there because if I switch it out with the same solder of that PAL dump I spoke of it loads the system menu. However if I use the complete PAL dump it "black screens" after the health / warning screen. I can now access the system menu I cannot see any channels (except Disc Chan) or access any wii saves content. also if I go to settings I get the "Black Screen". Is there any issues with dolphin and wii memory? Has anyone had success with this while having preloader installed? |
