HOWTO: get Wiimote to connect/be recognized in Dolphin

i had a lot of trouble getting my Wiimote working with Dolphin. it seems like it works just fine for plenty of people, but i thought i'd write this up in case it helps someone else.

materials:
Win7 64bit
Nyko Wand + Kama
Nyko wireless sensor bar
Bluetooth dongle (i use the Cirago BTA-3210, but i also bought/tried the $2 Super Mini adapter from Dealextreme. both work, so i don't think bluetooth dongle is too important. the Cirago one seems to have much better range)
Dolphin 2.0
Bluesoleil bluetooth stack (could never get it to work with Microsoft stack)

method:
- plug in BT dongle (mine has this horrible blinking LED, so i unplug it when i'm not using it). make sure the dongle is attached to your computer close to where you'll use the Wiimote because i did experience some range-related problems.
- open Dolphin, go to Wiimote settings, make sure input source is "Real Wiimote." stay in the Wiimote settings dialog.
- double click on BT icon in system tray to go to Bluetooth Places.
- if this is not your first time pairing your Wiimote skip this step and the next. to pair you have to "Search Devices" and then press 1&2 on the Wiimote simultaneously. a joystick should show up, but it will just have a MAC address. right-click on the joystick icon and select "Connect" (you might have to press 1&2 on Wiimote again if they've stopped blinking), and it should now say something like "Nintendo RVL-CNT-01."
- wait a minute or so. for me, the Wiimote seems to lose its connection with the PC when it's idle. waiting a minute guarantees the connection is lost after initial pairing (you want the connection to be lost).
- start at this step if you have paired your Wiimote before. right-click on the Wiimote in Bluetooth places and select Connect.
- press the 1&2 buttons on the Wiimote. you should see some dialogs about the connection being established, but don't wait for these dialogs.
- quickly and repeatedly tap the "Refresh Real Wiimotes" button in the Dolphin Wiimote settings. if everything works, the Wiimote should start vibrating in response to the button taps. the key here is that you have to start tapping the Refresh button while the Wiimote is still pairing.
- now exit Wiimote settings (OK or cancel is fine). it doesn't seem to matter at this point how long you wait; the Wiimote will stay connected to Dolphin.
- start your game.
- quit the game (the Wiimote never works the first time for me, even if i use Alt+F5).
- start the game again. the Wiimote should be working!

it's kinda crazy, but this is the ONLY way i've been able to get my Wiimote to work. but man is Dolphin awesome once it is working. feedback is appreciated, and i hope this helps someone.

wow! finally my nyko wand works. Tapping "Refresh Real Wiimotes" did the trick. However, it only works one wii game (Bubble Bobble Plus!). Other Wii games such as New Super Mario still won't recognize the Nyko Wand. Thanks GorillaTheHutt!

caco - just tried my Wand on NSMB Wii and it worked using the technique i outlined. might want to give it another shot. in particular, keep in mind that the Wand isn't usable the first time you run a game (even if you got it to buzz in the Wiimote config). i always have to quit and restart and then the Wand is usable.

Just some friendly feedback as I have found myself in the same predicament.

First: Concerning the very reliable cirago dongle with the bright blue light. Unplug the dongle, then install the software that came with the dongle or download the latest from their website. Replug the dongle when the installation asks you to and follow the remaining steps accordingly. To deactivate that blue blinking light, right click on the Bluetooth icon in the icon tray, then click on "Disable Bluetooth Function". When your ready to use it right click on it again, then click on "Enable Bluetooth Function".

Finally: I would try the new "Dolphin-win-x64-v3.0-204" dirty version because I never have to open the games twice in order for them to work.

Thanks for reading. Hope this helps.

I am able to get the WiiMote to vibrate, and it shows as 1 being connected in Dolphin, but I cannot get the control settings to recognize it (only shows me DInput/0/Keyboard Mouse, Wiimote is not in the list)

Update: The Wiimote works in only one game - Smash Brothers Brawl. However the IR pointing function is still not working, and the Wiimote is still not in the list of controllers under DInput/ Keyboard Mouse. (It's also a Nyko Wand and Kama)
