map your controller to the wiimote configuration...
switch the device to keyboard mouse...
map the mouse to IR Pointer axis
switch back to controller in device list...
enable background input (could help)

now the mouse is mapped to IR
the other mappings to controller

am I wrong?

He's right. You can map everything you need to the controller first, then select Keyboard/Mouse and map the IR. Even if your controller isn't selected there, it doesn't matter if you already mapped everything to the joystick, you can play fine. Think of the option to select the device as an input method selecting, and not the single one you'll be using to play.
