Hi, I was just wondering if it's possible to upgrade my Dolphin version while retaining all of my settings.

For example, my controller config, my graphics settings, ect, etc.

Or do I just have to do all of this manually?

Dolphin/User/Config for your configuration settings
Dolphin/User/GC for your GameCube saves and DSP LLE files
Dolphin/User/Wii/title for your Wii saves

Just remember that you can't switch from example Dolphin 3.0 thinking you could go to one of the newest GIT version or something and then think things will still work with your old Dolphin 3.0 settings because of the numerous changes from 3.0 and today.
Going from newer GIT versions to other newer GIT versions usually works just fine though. And native saves always works unless it's save states which aren't recommended to use anyway.

Alternatively just put the new .exe in your old dolphin folder. You may also want to copy over the new game inis, but these rarely change anyway.

So if I upgrade from 3.0-845 to 3.0-8.8, everything in the config file is the same? Would there be any negative consequence of doing this?

Just make what Duke Nukem suggested to you and it will work fine :
Quote:Dolphin/User/Config for your configuration settings
Dolphin/User/GC for your GameCube saves and DSP LLE files
Dolphin/User/Wii/title for your Wii saves

Or just copy the whole user folder, and merge it with the new version's.

Don't just move the new .exe into the old folder, though, as sometimes there are things dolphin is dependant on that are updated, but not in the .exe (or so someone has said at some point).
OS: Windows 10 64 bit Professional
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5900X
RAM: 16GB
GPU: Radeon Vega 56

The config files change every so often, but it doesn't really matter. Opening dolphin will instantly set any missing values to the defaults.

Technically true, but it is very rare for any such files to be changed, other than the game inis, which i already mentioned.

I mean, if you want to be safe, then just download the newest version, and change all of you're settings manually. It's probably a waste of time though. I always just copy the exe over myself.

Well we all have our different methods of solving things, me I use the above method I posted on newer GIT versions and it works OK. Usually though I just configure things manually and keep the GameCube controller and Wiimote profiles I made. It's one thing configuring Dolphin, that's fast and easy but configuring controllers is frustrating (Zelda Skyward Sword emulated controls for example)
