Question
How do I smooth out the image of games? I've tried adjusting the internal resolution, to no avail. I'd like it to look as good as it does on my old TV when I use my component cable, if possible. If nothing else, I just really don't want to have to deal with all these ugly jaggies.

What's your monitor's size and resolution ?
And if you want good graphic quality , you must upgrade your graphic card
5450 is too weak ....to hanle high internal res (2.5x and up) in most games , not mention anti-aliasing

I believe it is this model http://ap.viewsonic.com/ph/products/lcd/VX2250wm-LED.php and I don't know if it is more or less than 21.5 inches. Max resolution is 1920x1080, so I'm assuming that's it's resolution. When I say "...to no avail...", I mean whether it lagged or not, the picture looked exactly the same. What is a card that would work for playing on a much higher resolution? Do I need to get a better CPU and.or more RAM as well?

1080p monitor....
5450 is only capable of playing most game in low resolution such as 480p
Quote:When I say "...to no avail...", I mean whether it lagged or not, the picture looked exactly the same. What
I know that
Base on your monitor size and res , you have to use at least 4xIR or even higher : 3xIR + 4xSSAA (Direct3D9)
You must buy at least AMD 7870 or equivalent GPU

Well , if you want more FPS , get a better CPU . Intel i5 4670k is the best CPU for Dolphin atm but still you have to overclock it to run the most demanding game full speed

Btw , your Dolphin version is outdated , latest Dolphin is 3.5-1400

Which AMD 7870 is the right one (I don't understand GPUs)? http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=AMD%207870
By "most demanding games" I assume you mean stuff like Metroid Prime and Crystal Chronicles, or do you mean Wii games?
Also, isn't 1400 a developer version? Wouldn't I want to avoid DVs?

He meant both.
Some GC games are very demanding. Metroid Prime is one of them. FFCC isn't really demanding.
Wii games are demanding of course but some of them are very "light" compared to some GC games.

You can use the stable version (3.5 with nothing behind).
But development versions have a lot of improvements and such so you should try them too. Some games work better with latest builds

Your version 3.5-367 x64 is no difference
Stable version : Dolphin 2.0 , Dolphin 3.0 , Dolphin 3.5 . "Stable version" doesn't mean anything , you still have problem
You should use latest version

The Last Story + EFB copies to Ram (for accuracy , lower FPS) + LLE audio (almost perfect audio , huge performance hit) , Mario Galaxy + LLE , Pokémon Revolution + LLE , Xenoblade + LLE and so on ...

Any ...
Choose the one fit your budget . Sapphire 7870 is cheap
What's your power supply (PSU) ? If you PSU is too weak to handle that GPU , you will have to buy a better PSU
