This is actually really common for bypassing youtube's braindead encoding methods for low res videos. It's basically required for videos of older consoles like nes, otherwise it'll look like absolute shit.

So are you saying record your footage in 1080p and upscale when you encode it to the max resolution? Wouldn't that make it look blurry because it's not at native resolution and is being stretched/enlarged ?

Granted, the differences here is far bigger since snes is such low resolution, but it still makes a pretty significant difference to go above 1080p.
