How to play Mario Kart Wii?

First of all my compliments for getting Mario Kart Wii running smoothly on my computer. I remember downloading Dolphin a year ago and Mario Kart Wii was not running smoothly at all, it runs very well now.

I have a few questions though:
  • Is Dolphin for Wii good enough to provide fun evenings with friends? I used to play N64 emulator and Mario Kart 64 was lots of fun with friends! I am considering inviting them for a few beers and play Mario Kart Wii with 4 controllers.
  • How is Mario Kart Wii supposed to be played? With my keyboard or controller, turning left or right is not going smoothly at all. Sometimes it goes to the left, then I can't steer back etc, it's not really possible to steer.
  • Do most people here use actual Wiimotes, a controller, their mouse or their keyboard for playing Wii games?

hm. most ppl here have a legal, real wii and, of course, a wiimote. so all u need in addition is a sensorbar or a few candles Wink
playing wiigames without wiimode sucks.
i've never tried multiplayer with dolphin but it should work fine. i guess

You could buy:

Mario Party 7 for GameCube Good to play with normal controllers
Mario Party 8 Wii
Wii Party
Super Smash Brothers Brawl - Wii
Worms 3D - Gamecube

Mario Kart needs a good CPU and a better if you wanna play with more people.

If there's ANYTHING you should know about this game, is that it comes with the wii wheel,

meaning it uses tilt based controls, with the wiimote held sideways. So for joypad I'd reccomend the GC plugin or nunchuck extension, which the game also supports.

I found that with the actual PC i have, some Mario Kart Wii tracks run at full or almost full FPS than others which run at 50-60% speed. That might be cause my emulation problems maybe.

I have been doing so many new things lately including Dolphin, CakePHP, dd-wrt, Flight Simulator, Asterisk and all require so much reading.

Dolphin works perfectly with my controller! The opening screen said to push A on my Wiimote so I thought I should configure and connect a Wiimote.
It turns out the GCPad needed to be set up for this and the game works perfectly fine!

How well does the mouse work as a Wiimote?

Different games uses different IR sensitivities, so you may have to recaibrate it for different games. Unless you're fine with the Y coordinate not matching that one of the mouse.

I just use the wiimote turned sideways. Yea, for games like this, your probably saving alot of headaches just going with a real wiimote.

I use the gc controller on wii and 360 controller on dolphin (emulating the gc controller).

for a not so good cpu, mario kart double dash (gc) is awesome!

i use my XBox 360 USB controller for both GC and Wii games. Most games not using standard controllers tend to be boring and very repetitive...that's probably why i sold my Wii about a year ago.
