No, to convert you must set up a flag in a .ini file in your Dolphin Emulator\Config Folder.

There are instructions in Bigheads post :p

Dolphin Texture Converter:
Starting with Dolphin v4.0-5234, there is a built in converter to convert your custom textures to the new format!
- Navigate to C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Dolphin Emulator\Config
- If you use Direct3D backend, edit gfx_dx11.ini with Notepad
- If you use OpenGL backend, edit gfx_opengl.ini with Notepad
- Find the setting ConvertHiresTextures and set it from False to True
- Now just play the game. When Dolphin loads a retexture it will automatically rename it

The files in your load folder will automatically be renamed to the new has as they are loaded into the game.

Edit: You do not need to dump anything to convert, so you can just leave that unchecked.

Shouldn't this thread be stickied so texture pack owners who don't visit the forums on a daily basis will see it immediately?

Is there a way to force Dolphin to convert ALL textures at once ? It's not very pleasant to play a game with old texture format and have very often lags/mini-freezes when dolphin convert some textures, wait a little, convert more, wait a little, convert more, ect...

I also experienced multiple conversions of the SAME zone, like if textures was ignored by dolphin the first time the game zone was loaded but treated the second or third time.

If a complete/one time conversion is not possible right now, I think it could be a good thing to implement it in next build. If it's not possible at all due to the way dolphin handle custom textures then building an external conversion tool (if possible) is definitly a must-have to do.

@toto621 I'm sorry, this isn't possible at all. For rehashing, the original non-decoded textures are required. As they aren't stored within the texture packs (as nobody would be allowed to distribute them), we have to wait until the texture is loaded in-game where the original texture would be in use.

But the lags shouldn't be more than the common lags of loading custom textures. Renaming files is usually for free.

Thx for your answer, I have 2 more questions :
- Is there a way to convert Old format GameCube textures to new ones using latest dolphin build ? Because I tried with Twilight Princess and all recent dolphin builds simply ignore textures pack for this game while older one or Ishiiruka build load it but do not allow us to convert thoses textures. I don't play with Wii version because it do not support Classic controller so only Wiimote+Nunchuck work for this game on dolphin.
- Is there a way to provide an external tool to convert all old format textures to new one, using texture pack and game ISO/Disk then ?

The requirements to convert a texture is that it will be loaded. So if the texture pack itself doesn't work, then it also won't convert automatically. But why are those texture pack not loaded any more? The API wasn't touched for a long time right now. Also Ishiiruka did pull the new texture format, so I guess it has also pulled the converter...
I hope these old packs don't use compressed textures...

It is called "Dolphin". Through I think it's possible to guess some of the textures by just looking at the disc, lots of them just require to get the exact data as while the game is running.
