how to import .sav files?

i was messing around with dolphin settings and messed up so i deleted the dolphin emulater file folder in mydocuments to reset everything but i didnt realize that the save data was in there, so the save data that was there is gone now. however, i still have a .sav file where my game is located. is there anyway i can import that .sav file? it seems i can only import .bin files? thanks

That's most likely a savestate, not normal save data. Try to first launch the game and then use pick the menu option Emulation > Load State > Load State...
