I am playing super paper mario, everything is working great except that when I got the ability to examine things using pixl and the ir pointer, it is always up on the screen unless I pick another button as a hide button and hold it the entire time. Is there a setting to make it so it is hidden by default and only pops up when I need it?

Thanks!

I have the latest build on a new macbook pro.

Right click the "Hide" button in the wiimote config dialog.
A new dialog box will pop up.
Select some button in the list and click the "NOT" button.

Then the pointer will be hidden unless you press that button.

That is perfect!!! Thank you so much! One last question if you don't mind, I can't seem to figure out what the ^add button does. Also, for clarification, what exactly does the !not option do? All I can think is that it makes a setting do the opposite of what it would normally do. So in this case normally the pointer would be active and you would have to hit a button to hide it and with !not it does the opposite. Does this work on other buttons as well?

Yes, "not" will give you the opposite behavior.
You will rarely want to use "add".
