He could have a legit copy of Vista and an upgrade disk to 7 ultimate which he got cheap, by using a student deal or similar. There are ways of doing it legitimately for not much money.

Agreed. There's hardly enough in Tezuka's post to indicate piracy. I got Windows 7 for $30 when it first came out; it was some promotion for students. Simply because he's running Ultimate isn't enough to say it's not legit. For all we know Tezuka is rich, or has a family member that works in IT, or just cloned a HDD image of a previous Windows installation.

No i didn't pirate windows 7 ultimate, if you do a bit of research there are some cheap places to get windows 7 ultimate, like eBay, also i live in Australia Smile

I wouldn't trust eBay for buying a copy of windows unless the seller has been there for years and has a good number of stars and a high percentage of positive reviews. Once I bought a computer from eBay, and although Windows Genuine Advantage checker said it was genuine at first, they eventually changed their mind, but by that time the seller was gone.

Basically people see it as an easy way to make money, as they spend about nothing (except the cost of a blank DVD), but can sell it for full price (ish). People will assume it isn't pirated as long as they've paid for it.

But for now we'll assume you got lucky, and haven't been sold a fake copy.

In the UK, as a student you can get an upgrade licence at a discount price, but nothing else. Home is £43.50, Ultimate is £65. So basically you still need to have paid full price for at least XP.
