Hmm, I actually just realized that bestbuy's website had a typo, and that it actually has switchable graphics with the GT 740M and the HD4600.

With the NVidia GT 740M, what kind of dolphin-specific performance characteristics can I get and in comparison with the Intel HD4600?

Google "GPU name here" + "notebookcheck" and look at game benchmark . That's PC games performance
I tried to avoid answering Dolphin performance because it's hard to guess

6xxM has GPU boost (1.0)
7xxM has GPU boost 2.0 which boost CPU clock , memory clock (will increase memory bandwidth as well) . But that depends on the temp , if GPU run cool enough , it will boost up further and further . GPU boost 2.0 is better than GPU Boost (1.0)

The default memory bandwidth of GT 740M DDR3 (at stock speed) is 28.8GB/sec which is the same amount bandwidth as my Nvidia GT 540M . So Nvidia GT 740M can handle 2.5xIR . The GT 740M GDDR5 version has much higher memory bandwidth though GDDR5 version is rare . Therefore , GDDR5 version may able able to handle 3xIR

However , your laptop is a multi-media laptop , not a gaming laptop with superior cooling design . The CPU max power consumption is 47W , if you use dedicated GPU with Dolphin , it will add more heat and may cause overheating . You better use integrated GPU with Dolphin
