I'm upgrading my CPU from the Athlon II x3 450 @3.2GHz to the Phenom II x4 945 @3.0GHz quad core.

How much of a boost do you estimate I would get on games? Not looking to do heavy demanding ones, just some light games.

There is a speed boost, yeah. If you want best performance with the Phenom II X4, overclock it.

Impossible to say, every game is different. I would estimate anywhere from 0-15% depending on the game. It's going to be fairly small.

I don't think the 945 is a black edition so overclocking won't be as easy and as NV said the boost would be minimal. Unless you are getting the 945 for pennies I would put the money toward a new motherboard and sandy/ivy bridge processor.

Well I get about 90% speed when playing games, so I think it would be good enough. Games like Metroid Prime and Chibi-robo are games I'm looking forward to emulate.

Well, Metroid Prime is a demanding game. You have to over clock your CPU if you want to run this game at decent speed.

I see. Well my motherboard supports overclocking so I don't see it being an issue.
