Intel HD is the only way to get optimum power supply
You dont need an intel graphics card to get good battery life. I have an ATI radeon 4570 in my laptop and on a 9 cell battery it lasts me 5 1/2 to 6 hours. Granted, I dont game on it while on the battery but most people wouldnt do that.
@OP - I highly recommend NOT buying a laptop and gaming on the battery. You'll be lucky if it lasts you an hour. At least thats my personal experience, my previous laptop (Pentium Dual Core, Intel GMA 3100) I tried running Half Life 2 on the battery and it went to dead within half an hour. Not to mention the fact that modern CPUs and GPUs scale back on power consumption when on the battery so performance will be pretty bad.
