How do you use mutable xbox/ps3 controllers

So I've been trying to use mutable controllers, but they stay under the same devise (xinput/0/gamepad)(Both of my xbox controllers).
And when I try to use them, they both can be controlled by 1 person.
Not exactly sure what to do.
Tried as standard and emulator
Please help anyway you can, ask for more info if you need it.
