And i was about to recommend you a pinmod...

Your current BUS speed is 266.
The FSB is 4 times the BUS speed, 1066 in your case.
The processor has a multiplier, locked in most cpu's, unlocked in Intel Extreme and AMD Black Edition and FX.
The final processor speed is BUS x Multiplier, by doing simple math: 2.400 / 266 = 9, we get that you have x9 multiplier.ç

There are two ways of overclocking, one is increasing multiplier (safer and easier) other is raising fsb (affects the whole socket and RAM).

Does your BIOS allow you to change the BUS speed?

Then you're out of luck, even if you manage to sort all the trouble to overclock that cpu (up to 2.8 3.0 stable, i doubt it reaches more without going boom) you would get a 15% boost in the fps. Not good if you were already getting less than 40 in some games.

EDIT: The forum is quite quiet at the moment... would the fact of kids still being at school explain this?

So does that mean all Hp Pavillion's cannot be overclocked?

I've got a Dv5-1007Tx with a Core 2 Duo T9400 @ 2.53 Ghz.

Dunno, you can try, or at least take a look at the bios.

Unless you get an HP Pavilion with Intel Core 2 Extreme, those have unlocked multiplier... but that will cost you...
Well, see for yourself.
