Well, I wanted to install the Homebrew Channel for some girl but it seems like she has Wii menu 3.1 installed... and I want to update it to 4.2E but not 4.3, all I have is a SD card... how am I supposed to update 3.1 to 4.2 with the use of SD card, I don't want 4.3 installed :S. Please do help.
How do I update Wii menu 3.1 to 4.0/4.2 without WiFi? (SD?) (SUCCESS)

youre boned. you'll have to use exploits like smash stack/twilight hack to install the homebrew channel
from there you will need to do other shit (install patched ios36 etc etc) (08-19-2010, 04:06 AM)Daco Wrote: youre boned. you'll have to use exploits like smash stack/twilight hack to install the homebrew channel I've used NUSD to download system menu 4.2... and WAD manager...can't I just run it from SD card on her Wii and install it? Or, can I update my menu to 4.3, then downgrade to another version? And sorry if I talked with first person perspective (I thought it was illegal to talk about it, but it seems it isn't)
ok so here is the thing
upgrading the wii to 4.3 trough nintendo is risky cause the wii clearly is an old one that still has the old boot1/boot2. so updating will download boot2v4 and is kinda risky. upgrading trough WAD's require a trucha signed ios. because the wii is old (IF the wii was never downgraded before, im guessing 3.1 = an old wii) im guessing ios15 will still have the original trucha bug. if you want to update the wii without installing the homebrew channel/bootmii as boot2 (which i REALLY fail to see why not) then i'd suggest trying to use wad manager under ios15... but i STRONGLY suggest to install the homebrew channel/bootmii ; take a nand dump and then do what i said above ( use wad manager under IOS15 ) so that IF something fails you dont break the wii why would it be illigal to talk about this stuff? ok the WADS you made by nusd aren't the most legal ones but still... Attempt to downgrade to another version using Preloader Damn, this is really difficult ![]() Once I have larger SD card, I'll try your idea. (Wii 4.0 and down don't support SDHC, I have like 3 SDHC cards with adapter)
If you have NSMBW ( and a SD card ) you can update your wii ( to 4.1 ) without any modifications
1. Use WUFE to extract the update partition of the disc ( this could be applied to any disc ) 2. Use WadImport to install the wads ( without needing to patch any IOS, Nintendo already signed the ones in the disc ![]() Even with NUS you shouldn't need any patched IOS since Nintendo already signed them ( ? ). But of course you need an exploit to load them ( choose any of the exploits that daco said ![]()

I recall NSMB updating automatically to 4.1... thank you so much! 1 more question... so with the WUFE it also means I can install without Homebrew? Saving it on SD card is handier, but I have only 128 mb, the rest is sdhc with adapter :X (08-19-2010, 07:33 AM)James333 Wrote: If you have NSMBW ( and a SD card ) you can update your wii ( to 4.1 ) without any modificationsbad bad bad NSMB & SMG2 both have different updates depending on the region ![]() also, priiloader > preloader (and dont you dare forget it!) and why update to 4.3 and then downgrade again...? (and have another possible brick...) and DONT , and i really mean it, DONT FORGET TO INSTALL BOOTMII AND GET A NAND DUMP! and get a bigger regular SD. i bought 2x2GB SD for 10€ lol EDIT: another thing, if you have a game that has 4.1, why the fuck would you want to extract its update and install it as a wad? why the fuck wouldn't you just want to let it update from the disc channel?! (note : doing that with a >= 4.2 update (or anything having the boot2 update)is bad, a 4.1 update is fine...
I had a second idea... Install HBC and update to 3.2 using Anyregion changer... They say 3.2 is best for HBC and Starfall, true or not?
If I have Starfall I protect Wii bricking, so if she updates accidentally, I won't have problems ![]() 08-20-2010, 10:23 AM
