If you're a single player with Wiimote, you may use hybrid Wiimote option and map the IR to your mouse. And you can point with your mouse. I don't remember the specifics, but it worked.
If your controller is a XboxOne (probably also a Xbox360) you can map the IR to the right stick. You'd better tick the relative input option, otherwise the pointer goes always back to the center (and that's annoying).
More than one player with Wiimotes and no bar, the two candles trick works. Kind of buggy response and not suitable for intensive usage, but fair enough if it is just to play a mini game from time to time.
