Question
Hi! I'm new to Gamecube/Wii emulation and I was wondering what I could do to improve my experience. Smile

I don't know which settings to tweak(in Dolphin or on my PC) or which Dolphin revisions to use, and I've only recently come to know a few terms such as "hyper threading","overclocking" and "turboboost"(in regards to CPUs). Undecided

Seeing as I don't know how to set everything up all that well, and because the community on these forums seems to be amazing and very friendly, I was hoping to get some help to increase emulation performance/quality.

I would love to know what changes to make from the default Dolphin settings, what changes to make on my PC (things like whether or not I should limit which processors run dolphin.exe), what are the best revisions to use for the games I want (if the newest is not necessarily the best), or anything relating to the topics involving those fancy terms in quotations above Blush .

I have already looked on the wiki for information regarding the specific settings needed to play the games I want, so that kind of stuff won't be necessary, but I'll still list those games in case there is anything that could help me out which is not covered by the wiki.

Anyhow, here are the games I would like to emulate, and relevant information on my PC.

games(in order of importance, with highest being most important):
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (GC)
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Luigi's Mansion
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Phantasy Star Online: Episode 1&2
Naruto: Clash of Ninja 2
Mario Party 7
Mario Kart: Double Dash

PC Information:
Laptop - Dell Studio XPS 1645
Display - HD LCD Display (1600 x 900)
OS - Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Processor - Intel Core i7 720QM (1.60GHz)
Processor Instructions - MMX, SSE (1, 2, 3, 3S, 4.1, 4.2), EM64T, VT-x (I don't understand this part, but it seemed important) Blush
Chipset - Intel DMI Host Bridge
Memory - 8GB DDR3 SDRAM
GPU - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 565v (1GB Memory)
Hard Drive - 450GB HDD

Please keep in mind my aim is overall better performance graphically while maintaining high FPS (I'm quite content running at 85%+). I hope that covers all the information you need, if i've left out anything important please let me know! THANKS! Big Grin

There are some videos on Youtube that explain how to optimize Dolphin just to a search like "Dolphin Emulator Best Settings For Best Performance". Here is a pretty good video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=183JT5AAFUU

Also I would definitely recommend getting a good CPU. That is what the Dolphin Emulator demands is a good CPU. You can also view youtube videos of games being emulated and see the computer specs that are running the emulator and see what runs best. For example here is a video for Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (GC):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-y27gjyaJc&feature=related

This persons specs are:

AMD Phenom II X3 720 BE 2.8ghz @ 3.4ghz
HD 4850 512MB
2GB DDR2-800
WinXP 32bit

Thanks for the link! Unfortunately, It's not very feasible for me to get a new CPU at the moment, that's why I would really appreciate some help with my current hardware.

All right, so basically the only way to get the job done is to spend the money for a more suitable processor. Undecided

Any way to make better use of what I've got?
