I am using gamecube games, and often get 1/4 the amount of fps the standard gamecube gives. I'm running dolfin on a laptop, 2.40 ghz quad core processor, 3.85 gb of ram, and I'm not using any other processes in the background. I have looked up tutorials, and they still set my fps to 1/4 the regular rate. I have set the dolfin to use all 4 cores in my cpu, but still nothing different. Anyone know what to do?
(using dolfin 4.0)

My computer specs are:
Gateway NV57H44u Laptop
Intel Core i5-2430M
480 ssd
4gb ddr3 memory
64 bit
windows 7 home premium
Dolfin 4.0 using Super Mario sunshine, ATV Quad Power Racing 2, and 1080 Avalanche
and when I check task manager, Dolfin takes up 50% even though i set it to use all cores.
I enabled every option that boosts speed
FPS set to 60, usually get around 10-15 FPS

The wiki says that Sunshine should be running at ~30 FPS with your computer, assuming you have something other than onboard graphics. It may be that you need a better GPU and/or CPU. Early generation i5 processors (<2500) usually have problems running several GC and Wii games, and onboard graphics usually don't work well with Dolphin. Your computer it looks like is just incapable of running the games you want it to at the speed you are pushing it to. Running at 10-15 FPS tells me that your computer could probably use some spring cleaning as well.

Sorry, but your pushing it trying to play Super Mario Sunshine on that computer. For maximum performance update your Dolphin emulator regularly and make sure that your computer isn't running anything in the background.

this makes no sense, I should be able to run this. The gamecube has far less memory and cpu power than my computer, and it's 13 years old. Why shouldn't a computer with superior hardware be able to run a 12 year old game properly?

Old build of Dolphin, SMS is only 30fps anyways, PC maybe a little lightweight for Dolphin.
Test out your pc with the benchmark, post results in that thread.

That's not how emulation works.

In average, when dealing with emulation, your computer should be 10 times more powerful than the console you're running.  That can relate to CPU & GPU. There can be other considerations as well, but that's a good starting point.  It would be helpful to investigate how emulators work, so you'd get a better understanding as to why they require so much power from your computer.  My computer is quite a bit more powerful than what you're running, but there are still some games that are a bit laggy for me.
