Hide GUI buttons

Is there a way to hide the GUI buttons in the settings? I use a Gamevice controller with my phone and I have no need of the GUI buttons.

In the menu that you can access while a game is running, go to Configure Controls > Toggle Controls > Toggle All.

Unfortunately, swiping down for the menu icon is overridden by the quick settings/notification menu of Android. I managed to find a workaround to get the Dolphin menu, but it's not convenient. Any ideas on how that might be changed?
