some of you are wrong on ps3 specs, the ps3 has 512mb in total memory avaialble(2x 256 one of them is super fast memory), yes the graphics card may be weak compared to modern day ones, but just remember ps3 has no os to run alongside it, also another thing it uses spu's for neat tricks such as handling aa(thus doing traditional gpu work, taking load off the gpu), yes developing a dolphin emu would be kick arse hard, and may not run at 100% but im sure it will run, also to bury you all even deeper from what i heard they will be using the move lol :-D
Here's a good laugh for everyone: Dolphin on PS3.

Quote:but just remember ps3 has no os to run alongside it, Incorrect. The PS3 OS uses about 50-70MB of ram even when running in the background. And even without an OS it still has about half as much memory as dolphin needs on a typical PC (dolphin by itself usually uses about 600MB of main memory and 300MB of video memory). This could be brought down through optimized code but not without some very difficult workarounds. Quote:also another thing it uses spu's for neat tricks such as handling aa(thus doing traditional gpu work, taking load off the gpu), MLAA yes, MSAA no. Most work that is done on the gpus fixed function hardware would be painfully slow on cell SPUs. Only SOME stuff can be efficiently ported from fixed function graphics processing to software running on the SPUs. GC/Wii emulation on the PS3 is totally possible but would be stupid for multiple reasons that have already been discussed in this thread. Quote:homebrew on the ps3 is dead already since sony is coming hard on everyone and suing. You keep thinking that. Nobody gives a shit that sony is suing (except geohotz).

It is not geohotz, and sony is patching the holes in the official firmware. IF you go online with a custom firmware, you risk being banned. Sorry, but there is not much benefit of running PS3 homebrew anymore. 03-03-2011, 07:43 AM
