Shocked
Ooook, just out of curiosity I bought a cheap chinese Wiimote with Motion Plus and Nunchuk (a LinQ model HHC-003).
After some experiments with Bluetooth, the only working configuration seems to be Passthrough with libusbK driver.
Many thanks to Pete Batard for the Zadig utility and to the creators of the libusbK drivers. Heart

All buttons are working and swiping is detected, but... precision pointing isn't working at all.
No matter how frantically I move or shake the controllers, the pointer won't budge an inch in any game.
Could it be that I also need that "sensor bar" thing mentioned in other posts?  Rolleyes

Thank you,
Lurka

Yes you need a sensor bar for the pointer to work on any Wii Remote. The sensor bar is a set of IR lights that the Wii Remote uses to track its orientation compared to the display.

Thank you. Well, that makes the shopping list a bit more expensive.

Looking at the compatible hardware thread, a sensor bar seems to be an independent device and the only addition I still need.
But just to be sure, before I run into other unforeseen complications:

1) Do I need something else in addition to the sensor bar and the controllers?
2) Is it an independent device or does it have to communicate with Dolphin? How is it connected?
3) How is it powered exactly? Some have a USB cable, others are reported as wireless.
4) Are different types available? On eBay I see some sensor bars "for Wii & Wii-U", is that correct?

Thank you for help,
Lurka

1. You'll need bluetooth to connect them. But I think you have that covered?
2. The sensor bar does not communicate with anything. It's just IR lights that the wiimote can see! And yes it's called a sensor bar yet it has no sensor, but, that's how it is!
3 and 4. That depends on what you get. There are plenty of battery and USB powered ones available.

As for sensor bars, I'd recommend this one, since it's an officially licensed wii u sensor bar, and has AC and battery power: https://www.amazon.com/Official-Nintendo-Wireless-Sensor-Extended-u/dp/B003SVTEUK/ref=as_sl_pc_ss_mfw?linkCode=wey&tag=dolphin-emu-20&th=1

Do original Nintendo sensor bars have a USB or proprietary power connector?
Are older 2.5W USB ports enough to power a sensor bar?

Thank you,
Lurka

Proprietary

Do you mean W (watts) or V (volts)? Standard USB have never used either, and isn't enough to power a nintendo sensor bar.

I mean watts.
5V x 0.5A = 2.5W

Thank you,
Lurka

I mathed wrong, I was thinking A. But no, USB isn't enough to power the nintendo sensor bar, it uses 12v afaik

What about compatible sensor bars built with USB connector?  Huh
I assume they are designed to work with 5V, because there is no other option for USB.
No, actually there is a standard called "USB Power Delivery revision" that attains 20V 5A, but sounds like a very rare configuration.

Thank you,
Lurka

Those are third party sensor bars, yes. They can be made to whatever spec.

But you asked about the nintendo official one. Which is 12v
