Not so much for Wii but the PNG files themselves. It would be great if the compressed size for an entire set of the same image, lets say the inventory icon, was only slightly bigger than a single inventory icon. So if you had 879 of that icon, it would only store the data for that icon one time, but when decompressing it knows to create 879 of it and name it based on some lookup table it stores internally.

Ohhhh, got you now. You mean to just cut down on the file size of the download. I see, that would be pretty cool.

Yeah that's my biggest concern, there's still some people out there with slow connections. They see a 2-4GB file they will be like OMG! Once it's decompressed, even if its 10GB idc, its not like storage is expensive and hard to obtain these days. 04-28-2014, 03:32 AM

Yeah, that would be a concern. I see a 2-4gb HD texture pack and I'm like "Wow! There must be a lot of textures!" or "Man, these textures must be super high quality!" Lol. Guess I've just been spoiled by fast internet.
I was actually without internet for a few months a couple years ago and was using my phone as a tether in order to do some basic stuff. I remember trying to download some Fallout: New Vegas HD texture packs on that thing. It was an overnight process... So it would be nice to cut down on filesize so everyone can enjoy it. Edit: Now I'm bummed that there may be Japanese IDs mixed in with this, which are essentially wasted space with no way to sort them out. You know, I just realized something else too. There were some menu palette IDs from 4.1 that I never found "matching sets" for. Before Flanqer redid the last 5 or 6 menu palette textures, there were only the 18 or that were done. So there were around 20ish duplicates (dumped by someone else long before we knew that there were hundreds of IDs for each texture) of 3/4 of the menu palette textures. I'm pretty sure I never dumped any "half completed" sets of menu palette IDs. I'm now wondering if they were dumped using the Japanese voices.
Melia staff, might be over the top or an underachiever, I don't know I can't rate my own stuff at all especially these icons for some reason.

I like the icon, it looks good. But it's missing some detail from the original and doesn't match up right. The original looks like it has some sort of 4-prong thing at the top. Actually, it's kind of hard to make out exactly what it is, haha. I think part of the problem is that your shield thing (what the hell is it called anyway?) and monado are almost too good. Also, I added a bit of somewhat interesting info at the end of my last post. Edit: Yeah, something is off about it. Sorry. Bleh, I just don't think it looks right. The first two are really amazing though, I'm loving them in game. I've stopped mid-session to admire them a few times now. Honestly, I'd probably let it slide with a bit more polish (or less, I dunno). But you'd have to get it by poweredbykimchi too, he's a lot harder to convince :p (04-28-2014, 03:52 AM)frozenwings Wrote: I like the icon, it looks good. Also a few of those incomplete sets may be my doing. When I was trying to make a script that actually worked, I had a bunch of bad results. one wiped out like 5 area maps icons, another renamed some other menu palette textures to random stuff that I had to delete... after that I didn't feel so confident in my abilities, started making backups like I should have in the first place. Edit: I should have done this in the first place. At least now I know what im actually supposed to create... http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pV-OzM1t0kk/T1...elia+2.png 04-28-2014, 04:04 AM

I have ran into one or two instances where there were a single missing menu texture (perhaps your doing), but nothing specifically of what I've been expecting every since I started dumping last year. Specifically, the area maps, item, inventory, gem crafting, collectopaedia, and I think one or two or things weren't retextured. All the rest of them were done and there were nearly identical numbers of each texture, so I've been waiting to run into a few sets missing all of those specific icons, and I haven't. So, that probably explains it.
Edit: Also, I'm not very harsh when criticizing other peoples photoshop work. I suck, so everything looks amazing to me since I understand some of what goes in to it and I know I couldn't do the same. But at the same time I have to try and stay objective and keep things at least somewhat close to their original looks. Anything else goes into the optional folder and I don't think that's what you're going for with these. Also, I'm going to be leave for the day soon here (next hour or two) so I won't be able to respond to anything until later tonight. (around 8 hours from this edit.) So I won't be able to test anything else out until tonight either. That gives you plenty of time to make some new icons :p Edit 2: haha, yeah. I was actually going to tell you to look at some artwork. That usually helps. I've been trying to find something to replace the gem man's picture that pops up when loading into gem crafting. I'm not sure if there was every any artwork for him though. Edit 3: Another thing. So far, save state/load state loads the EXACT same IDs every time as long as you save state with the textures in question on screen. So if you save state with the achievement window open and it has the wrong texture where the chat bubble icon should be, you can save state on that screen, move all of your files from your load folder out, and reload that save state to dump the default texture to your dump folder. Then you can use that file name to locate the culprit texture. I've experimented with it a few times, and it has worked for me every time. The trick is to save state on that screen itself, if you leave and save state, and reload the state it's possible that it can reload a different ID for that screen. Anything that could cause the screen to reload is bad. So, pretty much the point of this post is to make sure you save state the second you notice something is off, and from there it's simple (well, besides moving stuff around in your load/dump folder) to fix the problem. I don't know if savestates are transferable between different versions of dolphin (or copies of the game), but this could be something important to note (along with the english/japanese voices thing) on the front page. If anyone notices a broken or wrong texture, immediately save state with it on screen and upload the file here for us to check out.
I actually prefer 100% honesty. If you said "I dropped a better texture in my toilet after lunch earlier" I wouldn't be offended, I'd just try harder. That staff I put very little effort into because I was trying to duplicate a pic of a staff I found on the net, never thought to look up Melia's actual staff. I can be ignorant in that sense sometimes.
Also, I kinda figured that about the IDs which gave me an idea that the Reyn corner image would be retrievable. It does seem to change though if you load a really old state sometimes, but at this point you probably have nearly every old ID. Ok before you go, and before I proceed and do fixes/color/final stuff, how does this look with some actual effort so far? http://i.imgur.com/oo2hZwj.png Edit: Bah must have missed you. I'll just assume you were going to say "Yep that's slightly better so proceed". 04-28-2014, 04:58 AM

Hit a huge well of missing IDs, was dumping like a fiend before I took off. :p I actually started to backtrack, and I'm hitting new sets of IDs randomly quick traveling to various landmarks. I don't know if new sets of IDs crop up each time you hit a new story event, or if there are specific points in the game. This is the first time backtracking since hitting Eryth Sea / Alcamoth, so I guess I won't know for a while. Also, having all of your files in your dump folder makes it take FOREVER to dump new images. I'm going to have to figure something out. Maybe it will be faster if I put my dump folder on a different HDD, if that's even possible. And, finally, that staff looks amazing. Ergh, I mean "Yep that's slightly better so proceed." Ahem. |
