Yeah I just can't get it to look right in game. I actually tried manually blending it or whatever like you said, since its just a simple bar. But man, even that looks terrible. I think I'm just gonna make it black and clean with no blur. It looks best like that I think.

This is the best I can get with the blending/blurring.. I don't know if it looks better or worse than the "clean" look in the pic above this one.

Another edit: Thanks for the heads up, I did notice it not working but I was on a mission to figure out this stupid black thing first. So, I renamed it and everything is all good now. I think I'm going to leave this black bar as it is for now, as attached. It looks better than the default texture and I have a couple other things I want to mess with before I get back to dumping.


Edit^3: Okay this is another thing that's been bothering me. (I know, there's a lot :p)

You retextured those bars in the menu screens, but they still had this weird effect over them. Well I found it and removed it, here's a pic of the process. I personally think it looks better without the overlay. I don't know if it's supposed to be a glare effect or what. I don't really understand the point of it.

I went back and read almost all of this forum since I started posting on page 46 to see if there's anything I missed. Took me awhile but I did give up after like page 80ish. In 10 days, we managed to increase the post count from 52 to 96 pages LOL. You just had to catch me in the 1 minute after I realized the color was still slightly off.

I think the sharper one looks slightly better than the blurred one, but that's just my opinion.

Also, do you have the ID for that overlay? I do like the glowing effect and I don't think we should remove it since it's supposed to be there, but it could be improved massively and it was actually something I wanted to do but forgot. The problem with it is it doesn't transition very well from the point it starts to where it finishes. There are retextures for some glow effects but not that one, at least I don't think.

Okay, I'm going to redo that black bar with the sharper edges then. I'm already learning some photoshop tricks, I think I can already do it better than the last one that wasn't blurred.

I'm attaching all of the overlays I've found, I'm leaving mine blank until you can fix them up. I have no interest (and probably not the skill), but I agree that we should keep them if someone can make them look good. I think the one from the pic (the one used most often) is SX4P01_c422b8c8_1.png.

Edit:

Worked on this party screen box. I like the clean look, especially if we go with the clean black bar thing.

That looks 20x better, good job. I want to test it out. And when you get a chance, try this. I only changed it about a thousand times before I decided to just stick with something simple, and match the glare of the other icons in the inventory screen. I haven't done the other ones yet.

Looking at it again, the clean look is definitely a huge improvement over whatever it is they tried to do where the edges melt inwards.

Edit: Nope it has issues. I was testing it on the inventory screen and it looked correct, but not on others. It's too large.

Looks good, but it doesn't quite line up with your other bar size:

Here's the dump of all the green bars so far. I don't know if it'll have the ones from later on though. Won't hurt to try.

Also, heres the background. I actually tried it with shadows and got the shadows looking pretty good, but they look nasty in game. I can't make fading stuff look good in game.

Edit: woops, looks like you figured it out. Maybe I was wrong about which one it is.

That gray box was actually in my to do folder, was wondering where it went. Deleted it out of there. Smile

This glow is problematic. This is as close as it can get because it seems to be scaling differently in some menus. If its too big in some, it looks terrible, if its too small in some, only slightly bad. All green bars are the same bar so its not an issue with those.

I'm at a point now where I can agree it should just be transparent. I'm attaching one that is the best it can be. Look at it in game, if you think it should be removed then I'm for it. If not I can live with the scaling issue because it's not too apparent.

Edit: Just loaded that party frame into my game, love it.

Haha, thanks! It was pretty easy, just a an opaque box with a slightly less transparent border. Honestly I spent like two hours trying to get the shadows right, then it looked terrible so I tossed up the original shape without the shadows and thought that it looked pretty damn good just like that. So, two hours down the drain for no reason. Could be worse I guess.

Anyway, about those glow textures. Yeah. They just don't line up right on some screens. I wonder why they don't stretch the same way the bars themselves do. Maybe the originals were just so bad looking you couldn't see them correctly? I don't know. I'm of the opinion that we should just ditch them and use blank textures if we can't get them to line up. All I know is that originals are horrible looking and ruin the new bar textures, so anything but those.

As an idea, could you not put the glow directly onto the bar texture itself and then we could just do the blank glow texture thing?

That's definitely a possibility, and it would probably have to be done for all bars. Worse case scenario is somebody finds a bar that missed the dumping process and it doesn't glow. But it's a hard call because I do like it without the glow. With it, when I read the text on the button it bothers me that it's there.

Yeah, I never understood why it's even there. The "glow" effect is pitiful, it looks more like the bar is just shaded poorly. Which is why even after you retextured the bars themselves they still look like crap with that default glow. Your glow is is a lot better, but then they don't fit. :p

We still have a while to decide, for now I'm just going to leave my blank slots in.

I've been on a mission to find a good artwork image of the gem man for his icon when loading into the gem crafting screen, but can't find anything. I wonder if he was even in any art.

Edit: Nice to know where they all go now. Explains why I don't dump some of the longer bars themselves sometimes.

Yeah I'll just set them aside so I don't forget.

The gem man most likely has no artwork. The best possible 2nd for an HD texture would be to crank Dolphin's resolution/graphics settings and take a screenshot of him. When you talk to him he crosses his arms like in the loading screen. Dolphin's free look camera is extremely helpful getting the correct perspective, it's been an invaluable tool in mapmaking to zoom out and analyze terrain shapes, capturing a distant shot of alcamoth for eryth sea map, getting those upper bionis NPC screenshots, the gun model from sharla, and I don't even know what else. All I know whoever thought of that free look camera, I want to shake their hand and buy them a drink.
