I have no doubt in my mind about that. After seeing some of your borders and other UI elements I thought something like this would be a walk in the park. But I guess all this stuff takes practice no matter what it is.

Also, it's finally finished. http://i.imgur.com/Vl6iFst.png

The other ones looked good downscaled and blurred but not this one. I may have to take a look at them again. This one is double the resolution.

Edit: Nope I was right, they look better the way they are... not sure why that is. I don't like having them different sizes but I may have to make an exception on this.

Edit 2: Whoops, I almost did the opposite of what I try to enforce.. 262x262? Nope. let's try 264x264...

I don't think I'm quite a sorcerer yet. When I can get that freaking gem socket to look like a hole instead of a pimple then I'll be on my way at least. Tongue

I wouldn't be complaining about your socket incident when you're busting out icons like those. Totally amazing.

Edit: Found out a few things tonight.

1. Accessing the affinity screen from the menu palette can refresh the icons without closing the menu, same as crafting a gem (have to craft a gem, entering the screen doesn't)
2. Accessing the affinity screen doesn't appear to generate it's own set of IDs when you close, but I did get some new ones from it
3. Accessing the affinity screen and leaving it refreshes minimap/clock frame IDs a ton. I think I got as much minimap/clock frame textures in the past hour as I have in the past week just from entering and leaving the affinity screen at various points.

And then:

1. Go back to a previous area, quick traveling to another landmark in that area (using Select/wiimote equivalent)
2. Bring up the menu palette, then close it and open it for a totally new main menu palette set of IDs (and submenus, usually)
3. Or if that doesn't work, craft a gem then close the main menu and bring it back up, you will get it then

I've done this from Colony 9 -> Tephra Cave and have got at least one entire main menu set each time as well as a lot of submenu sets. I'm guessing that there is a separate pool of IDs from quick traveling around and bringing up the menu, closing it, the bringing it back up.

I've also ran into some "repeat" IDs from other areas. For example between leaving Colony 9 and getting to Satorl Marsh (unlocking Dunban), I never backtracked. However, now in colony 9 I'm getting sets of IDs (two so far) where I'm missing Dunban and Riki's character portraits on all of the relevant screens (who I was missing previous in the game), but have all of the other things like icons and borders. So, some landmarks (or maps) may share some IDs. I've run into a couple sets in Eryth Sea that were missing all of the character portrait screens, but had retextures for all of the submenu borders/icons and vice versa. I'm guessing later areas may use "rehashed" ID sets. Or, worst case scenario, everything is completely and totally random and everything shares everything and the pools are just in my head. However, I notice a lot of patterns so it doesn't seem so random.

Just realized you guys managed to nearly double the number of pages in this thread in about a month about 45 -> 90.

I know people DO appreciate it, just that I wasn't sure how many people were going to even bother downloading my pack (a lot of thread to go through, easy to get lost in the clutter) and going through it to add to 4.1. I guess rather than say people wouldn't appreciate it, I should have said I wasn't sure if people were interested or even dedicated enough to find my back. It has around 500 total downloads (each part), but I'm not sure how good that measures up. I doubt most people even ever knew it existed.

Poweredbykimchi never added my files to his pack, so I didn't know if he didn't like some of my retextures, or if he just never got time or didn't think there was enough interest to bother. I'm not saying he didn't appreciate my efforts, in fact I was talking to him a lot for a while and he seemed very appreciative. And he helped get started and even retextured a few things himself for me. All around, I feel a lot better working on this with other people, even if I do feel like I'm being a pain sometimes :p.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Dumping is a necessity and, in my opinion, the bigger half of the project. You'll always find people who have some measure of Photoshop skills but surprisingly you'll never find people who want to dump textures even though you it's a simple process because it's just work. At least when you're retexturing, you see the progress, but when you're dumping it's hard to see if it's going to amount to anything. You're doing a ton of work and I'm sure your appearance is the reason why this thread managed to grow.

The reason I never added your textures is because I cannot put any more time into this as I used to. I'll be here to answer questions and see through things (I do check this thread everyday), but as far as working directly in the project, the time is very difficult to find. The newest texture pack upload isn't my work. Bighead did it and he tried to scavenge through everything. Being human, he probably missed some, but ultimately, I didn't give it a thorough look before giving the OK sign so a few things I would say no to got through and a few things I would have wanted to get through didn't get through.

I'm a blunt person. If I don't like something I will usually tell you I don't like it and how you take that is up to you, but if I say nothing, then that probably means I didn't have much to say.

Seconded. FYI, I'm really glad that both you and Bighead came to help this project.
I thought the HD texture project had ended for good before you guys started posting here.
You guys actually went out of your way to do all these dumping, batching, and organizing the files for others.
I can say not many people are both willing and able to do all that.
So of course, I appreciate it. So much that I'm eagerly waiting for release Tongue

Yes, thanks to everyone who's been contributing in the last 1-2 months. This project is looking great.

Haha, thanks. I know you were busy before with school, and I'm sure you're still busy. And I know you're blunt, but that's for the best. Someone needs to tell people when things don't look right, so it never bothered me any. Anyway, bighead and I are probably going to go through the next back with a fine tooth comb picking out any issues so problems like the grass/water textures don't happen again. He's also come up with some bad ass scripts to help us sort through stuff faster, and I've figured out a couple tricks to hunt down problem files as well that aren't as obvious as water/grass.

Also, in case you missed it, you may want to put a note on the front page that the textures can do funky things (not load the right texture IDs) if you use Japanese voices. I'm not sure if it works 100%, but loading the game with English voices and then switching to Japanese in game seems to be okay. However, the best bet would be to just avoid Japanese audio with the texture pack until I have more time to look into it.

Nice, going to include them in my next session. Although I don't have anyone who uses those weapons ATM :p.

I was wondering where you went. While I was out I was expecting to see some emails with some new textures in here.

I also made some new dumping discoveries I edited in to a post above, you may or may not be interested.

Actually I did get his pack in the last update, I don't think I missed anything (spent like 4 hours trolling through this forum looking for whatever I could find since your 4.1U post). I think his pack never made it into your compilation is because it was long after that update. But being that I threw in whatever I found, I wasn't very selective about any of it. I do agree there were a few textures that should have never made it into the main part of the pack, but at the time I wasn't thinking about a project, I was thinking "I want moar HD texturez for my game!" I'm a lot more selective now. This time I did separate anything "not very Xenoblade" into the optional folder, so next time around it should be a lot better.

Never imagined I'd get this involved, but I don't regret it either. It makes me happy so many came together to make it possible. Smile

I'm always interested because when I do actually play instead of having my face buried in image editors I try to dump as much as I can myself, in the off chance I actually do find something that didnt' come up in your game.

Also question: did you ever figure out where that "I don't even know" texture is used? I've been looking around here and there but I honestly don't even know either haha. It has ID SX4P01_14b3a7d6_8.png and looks like this: [Image: aReflM6.png]

Found an alternate ID for the quest !

Depending on your methods, you may get quite a few I don't get. It'll be interesting to see what we have when we both finish our games.

Edit: Nope, no idea where it comes from. Echoes has implied that he plans on retexturing it anyway. One of these days I might go and find it, it dumps from somewhere. Echoes suggested that it may be some "resource" or "filler" bar that gets used by other stuff.

Got that !.

I also turned this and messed with the perspective a bit. Probably can get it better, but it bothered me how it was turned a different way from the other skill book icons. It can probably use a totally different texture too; this was one of my placeholders from before. I honestly haven't even checked it out in game yet, but it has to look better not turned all the wrong way.

Good job guys!

Yeah, because of the way that texture looks, I think it's not used in the game as is. Just like with the bottom menu texture (This one), I think the game must be stretching it or using parts of it for something else. Maybe it'll make a difference somewhere once its retextured, which yes, I will do.

Here's the inventory menu borders. I'll be honest, I really don't think this textures are needed. I replaced them with empty space, and it was much better with them gone, in my opinion. I don't understand why the guys at Monolith even put them there, they're pointless.

Whatever the case, here they are. I toned them down so they'd fit better (still look out of place, if you ask me), but if anyone wants the more vibrant ones, ask away.
