To find out what those textures do, you could replace them with something obvious, like Shulk's portrait or something that would stand out in its place. That way you'll know for sure when something's missing.

And yes, that's the "Reading disc" font texture. Replace it with this one, but only if you're using English language. Otherwise, it'll be a mess.

Edit: man, it would be so much simpler if we could just edit the textures into the .iso somehow, kinda like how you can mod SSBB's iso... oh, well.

The problem is that the replacement thing doesn't work to well when you're dealing with duplicate IDs. Maybe a save/load state to check it out would work. But save states work oddly with how the game loads / resets file IDs.

Also, thanks for that text. I'll try it out later on.

And, yeha, too bad we can just inject these into the game. Maybe if someone figured out how to extract the textures from the iso, and also how to repack it. I wonder how the SSBB guys did it...

EDIT: Okay, looks like I found both of the gray boxes. I've edited this a bunch now within the past 5 minutes, hopefully you get it all.

Okay, decided to work on this a bit.

The dark gray box is definitely a character backdrop, it's used in the gem crafting screen and the gifting screen:

Also, you can see that the box texture's shading is off. Looks sloppy with the portraits. So, if you decide to work on that texture probably should take that into account.

While taking screen shots I also noticed a difference in the background box of the gem:

Compare the "gray" gem in this pic with the gem in the last pic. The new pics background is definitely darker than the last one. So there is definitely a repeatable texture in play here as the background for the gray "monster drop" gems. I'm wondering if that's your light gray box. It's hard to tell for sure from this pic and from in game. Going to have to retexture all of the ones you have and see if it makes a difference, and even then you won't know if you have the right one if it pulls up new IDs. I guess you could watch the file count in your dump folder. If it increases and the box doesn't change, then it could have dumped a new one.

Edit: The second pic gem looks like it uses the two-tone greybackground texture below (thumbnail).
Edit again: Upon closer examination, the light gray boxes you sent me also use a two tone texture as well. It's harder to see since it isn't so clear, but I'm pretty sure that the light gray box texture is the background for the gray gems and the texture in the thumbnail is the replacement.

Also, I took this pic to highlight how the portraits don't fit with this boxes. The boxes do look retextured though, but maybe the game just has a good base texture:

EDIT: An FYI here, using the mobile gem crafting thing you get later on in the game. Crafting a gem and then leaving the screen (on every map in the game) will generate new sets (around 3-7, by my guess) of menu palette and sub menu IDs (don't exit the menu palette after leaving the gem crafting screen, immediately go to the other sub menus to dump IDs). Then after you get those IDs, sometimes if you exit the menu palette and reopen it you'll even ANOTHER set of IDs. Since I knew this fact before (last year), the main menu, arts and skills character portraits, and quest menu IDs are going to be retextured most of the time. However, the medium borders in the map screen, the gift screen portrait/borders, collectopaedia borders, arts borders, achievement/H2H/tutorial icons, save/load borders, and the bue bar from the options screen all need to be dumped. I'm going to backtrack and do them all again since I need to snag the collectopaedia borders anyway.

So I was thinking about that combat status book... and for the longest time I couldn't think of a good replacement icon. To me it only makes sense to make it a book because the original is a book and a book is used for arts everywhere. But since books are boring, and were gonna be seeing it over and over again, I thought why not make it the most bad ass looking book I could find. Thoughts?

Haha, it does look badass. I like it. The question is: is it so flashy that it totally breaks the "try to keep the textures close to the original" rule? I like that rule for some things, and not so much for others. (I'm personally going to use your new texture in the meant time :p)

Also, did you see the monster post above? I'm pretty sure I figured out where your two boxes go.

I agree, it doesn't have to be 100% close to original.
Still, personally I think that book is a bit too.. detailed? The reason I like all these HD UIs is because they look clean and simplistic.
But that's just my opinion Smile

Nah I don't think so. In most basic sense a book is a book, and other textures bend that rule quite a bit (especially the 3rd icon in this pic).

And no not yet, I'm going to check it out now.

You make a good point. Probably be a good optional texture. The first arts book in the picture I linked is a little too detailed too, but it can get away with it for the most part. We can think of something else for the "primary book", maybe just rehash one of the arts books, but I'm gonna be using that gothic tome from now on.

The first two of those are my textures that I added :p

So, yeah, I broke the rule. They were actually more meant as placeholders until I found something more original. It's the same thing with the gems (the diamonds) and the collectibles. Those are all mine, but aren't from scratch. I used existing free icons from the interwebs and edited them a bit to fit my purposes as placeholders.

So, I don't know if anyone cares or whatever. But, yeah. I vote we keep the bad ass book icon :p

Ah so that's why. I was wondering about those icons in your screenshots(The gems and the collectible icons).
I thought they were going to be included in the next release.
I think they look really nice. I definitely want those Big Grin

Here ya go. They were actually in v4.5U, and I probably got them from frozenwings compilation pack.

Yeah, I thought I had them in an optional section of the pack. Maybe I goofed. Bighead actually beat me by 1 second, I was just about to link the files myself :p

The diamond (gem) textures needs to be cleaned up a ton if we decide to keep it. A lot of garbage in the texture outside of the diamond. Probably better to just totally redo them.

Also, bighead, in case you missed it I also linked to my filter file and a text doc for the values. Want to make sure you got it, this board gets moving fast sometimes.

Also, I'm done working (the real work) for the day :p, in case you didn't notice. I'm such a slacker; too much stuff to dump / texture. Haha.
