Made an account to bring this up. I've seen this issue before when reading this thread but I don't remember the specific solution. It only seems to have affected this in particular:

I also have a loading issue with the portrait textures on the Arts and Skills screen (inconsistencies, that is) but I haven't looked into solutions yet.

EDIT: That latter issue is acknowledged by the OP, never mind.

With Echoes concrete background I wanted to see how some of the HD backdrops would complement it. In short, almost feels like I wasted a whole bunch of time. I'll admit it does look slightly better, but the payoff doesn't feel worth the time spent. Not everything lines up perfectly, towards the end I just wanted to finish it all quickly.

Anyway, Alekzanderk was the one who made that whole menu back then. He pretty much redesigned the whole thing, and even made it metallic blue-ish. I think the one you use now is a color edit by poweredbykimchi.

Regarding the character circles, I remember making some for the affinity screen that ended up looking awful at the time, because I didn't know what I was doing. Maybe that happened there too? Either way, that one should be simple enough to fix.

Also, That "I don't even know" texture is probably a texture used for extending things or something like that.

Awesome! Just take your time. I'm going to be dumping for a while anyway. I actually took down the first zip file and uploaded another, should have made it say v2. I didn't think anyone grabbed it yet. Did you get the version with the map screen / story quest bar with the note talking about how the bar is bluish looking instead of brown? I think that was the only major change I made between the two. So if you go the wrong zip, I think that bar should be brown like the rest.

Yes, Alekzanderk did a ton of work. I don't even necessarily think anything he did looks bad, and I doubt we'd be close to where we are without what he did. I just think that he took some creative liberties with his work, which is fine since he made it. I just think everything should match and I much prefer your rendition since it's close to the original (and maybe because it's shiny Smile )

As far as the shiny goes, I think it looks good. The only bad thing about the story quest pop up now is that the main bar is kind of blue and looks funny with the rest. But since you're going to be working on it, I think it will be in good hands. If you think it needs to be toned down, then feel free to do it and use a similar style with any other UI you work on. I think it looks great already, but it's your work and therefor your call, and you'll probably want to make up your mind so you can make your new pieces match.

Bighead, yeah there's some weird stuff with how the small borders load in the menus. I'll try to explain it the best I can:

Arts Screen:
1st set: Loads when you enter the arts screen, also used by "Level up?" dialog box.
2nd set: Loads when you don't have enough points to level or when the ability is already at max level

Save/Load Screen
1st set: Loaded upon entering either the Save or Load screen (I believe this is the box that pops up for a second while loading or saving the game, because that box doesn't dump any new IDs)
2nd set: "Overwrite Save?" dialog box
3rd set: "Load Save Data?" dialog box
4th set: Save the game confirmation box
5th set: File loaded confirmation box

So the only way to get all of the IDs would be to save a game, then reload it right after. However, that can cause some other issues with dumping. Sometimes it's advantageous to keep the same menu; reloading the game obviously resets the IDs.

Gamedominator, I believe Bighead may have some idea of why that text is distorted. I believe it's due to a texture being the incorrect resolution. I don't know for sure.

Also, yes, some textures use multiple IDs for the same texture. If we haven't dumped the ID, then it hasn't been retextured. We're actually working on that a lot right now. I actually have around 500 new portraits retextured to add to the next update (which has around 800 portraits per character already), and I'm not even halfway through the game yet. It's kind of a random process with some controllable variables, you just can't force which set of IDs get loaded and we have no clue how many there are.

A lot of the textures in the pack have bad dimensions, which causes this to happen in OpenGL. All of them are fixed, but the pack isn't released yet.

Every portrait has multiple IDs, 100's, some maybe well over a 1000. We're working on finding as many as we can. Again, we have many more, which is hopefully soon to come.

I edited a pretty significant chunk into it.

I've noticed this too. Even loading a state can bring up different IDs, just not when its anytime soon after saving it. I found quite a few menu palette IDs by saving states periodically F1-F8 and loading them at random times.

Edit: @Gamedominator06 - If you come back, drop these textures in your folder and let me know if it fixes your issue.

Yeah, it's a huge pain. Haha. I don't like using save states usually, and the few times I have used it just reloaded the same IDs again. Weird that we're having different experiences.

Also, did you see my post with the issues.zip file in it? Just want to make sure you get it and wonder if you have any input on the matter of the arts circle or the icon for battle.

I think these background you guys are uploading only work in certain areas, unless I'm missing something. The texture you uploaded earlier (the gravely one) doesn't appear to work where I'm at. I'm pretty sure these black and white ones with the designs are area specific.

It only gives different IDs when its far away from where you're at, hard to explain. Like I noticed it when I first made it to the high entia tomb. I loaded a state and my menu palette wasn't retextured. Later I loaded a state from the tomb while in Alcamoth and it happened again. From that point on I just saved states here and there and loaded them at random times. I didn't do it often, probably not worth that much effort.

I skimmed through it briefly, I'm going to take a deeper look after this post. There are a few things in there I might be able to handle. I also noticed that book before, its in my "TODO" folder. I wasn't sure what to make of it, or where it even came from lol. I miss the most obvious things (like it popping up in my face the entire game).

The concrete background should work everywhere at least from what I've seen. And yep the black and white ones are area specific, the one I linked is makna forest.

Derrrrrrr, you know what? I bet it's because I probably have the original texture in that backup dump folder in my load folder that stops old stuff from dumping repeatedly. It's getting to the point where 99% of the stuff that dumps are only textures that I want :p. The only problem is that when someone uploads a new texture that wasn't previously retextured, I need to go into my backup dump folder and delete it.

Also, I like your new backgrounds. I think they look more clear and sharp. You're right that it isn't a HUGE different though. It might make a bigger difference at higher resolutions. I'll check it out on my end. I know that the background with the crystals or whatever in it (I know it's shows up in Tephra Cave for sure, maybe somewhere else) looks like complete garbage on my screen.

Edit: I don't think dolphin likes loading 30,000+ custom textures. Mine's starting to get weird sometimes when I start it up.

Edit: Also I was thinking.. that book for combat status. There's already like 3-5 book textures, would be simple to just copy one of them for it. I know you want to change it to a different icon but I'm drawing a blank on what. Everything arts related is always a book.

Yeahhhhh, looks way better. Thanks a lot, was driving me nuts.

Also, you have any ideas for that in combat icon yet? I'm not sure if I made it clear (:p), but I think we should totally come up with a new icon. Or use a different icon already in game. You have any thoughts on the matter?

Edit: Yeah but it's less about the actual arts and more about the buff/debuff applied. When you use a regular art with no side effect, there's no icon.

For example, Dunban:

Gale Slash - Bleed (uses icon)
Worldly Slash - Lowers defense (uses icon)
Electric Gutbuster - Inflicts break after Gale Slash (doesn't use icon if no break)
Steel Strike - Inflicts topple if affected by break (doesn't use icon if no topple)

Shulk's Back Slash, for example, never does anything special so it never uses the icon.

So, the icon is more about inflicting status effects or giving allies buffs as opposed to just using an art. That's why it doesn't make much sense to me, I guess.

I was messing around with some icons for that buff, and an interesting fact is it only displays in grayscale. So, you could put a rainbow icon with the entire color spectrum and it will show up black and white. Limits our options a bit, still not sure what would be fitting. I'll have to think hard on it since it's something that you see from start to finish constantly.

It also made me notice SX4P01_2587cf0f_2.png (smallest gem texture) is a status effect from gems and would probably be more fitting in that category.
