Yeah, I honestly don't have it in me to dump all of that all over again. Maybe in a year or (it was about that long between just these two sessions), but honestly I don't see much point in it just to possibly (we don't really know for sure if the same problem will exist at safest or not, I mean has anyone every dumped and used 80k paletted textures with dolphin before?) avoid a couple textures sharing the same ID. I feel like this long playthrough will give me a better idea of what we're dealing with.

But I'm still going to be dumping what I get on Fastest, and I'm also still going to be working on improving my photoshopping skills and redoing textures.

Just to make sure, you changed that one top border back into the Shulk portrait? I changed the one border back to the wrench and the corner back into Reyn's portrait.

Edit: Actually just read your edit. So Safest may actually dump less duplicated textures? That's interesting.

Yeah neo touched up on it briefly here. When I read the word "worsens" I think of a dramatic impact.

Which is why it is hard to say how many textures "safe" would actually pump out in the end. Two slider values seems like a huge change. I'll probably play on safest and only rename textures that are not paletted textures along the way just so I can somewhat enjoy the UI. But man... no textured menu pallette, skill tree bars, etc..

It's not something I expect anyone else to do. It would just be my "side project" that not even a sliver of the amount of time went into this release, and may or may never become complete/shared. It would just be what I dump as I play. Reading his document, one of the end goals is that textures dumped on safe work in any accuracy setting (I think?). And who knows when it will actually be fixed by someone, which in the end could break everything anyway.

Yeah that was bad context, he was answering my question if "fastest" setting affects paletted textures as well. Which it does, it makes it generate even more IDs. How many though, is purely speculation at this point. When we are all done with this stuff, I'm going to do a trial run in Colony 9 just to see how many paletted textures I can get to dump with the gem crafting trick (using my now completed file). We have what, 85k textures atm? I'll divide by the number of areas for a rough estimate, compare that number to the new amount, and see if I facepalm.

Haha, yeah. About 85k. I didn't check after my last batch, probably 83k give or take a few hundred. That's not counting what you have either.

Edit: I'm not sure how accurate of a test that will be. Some areas seem to have way more, colony 9 being one of them. But, I'm done speculating how things are done. All I'm sure of is that after today I'm not sure exactly how anything works :p.

Edit again: This puppy is about half way done (48%), been going for about 14 mins. Compressed size is sitting at 50MB atm. Is this thing accurate? I decided to try a 256MB word size, hopefully that didn't mess anything up.

Nope it's accurate and you didn't mess anything up. The higher the Dictonary/Word Size the better the compression, especially when 85% of the files are the same thing. Top it off with a solid archive and its even better. I have too much stuff running atm to use those settings, so my pack is probably going to be about the same size LOL.

EDIT: It's also interesting watching the compression ratio, the lower the better. If you're compressing something and it's like 98%, then it means only 2% compression. Why it works in reverse like that, I never bothered to understand. Tongue

Haha, I'm happy it's under 1GB. Never thought it would be around 100MB. Nice.

Yeah, I shut everything down besides firefox. I'm just reading a book while I watch it go. All this dumping has put me even further behind in my reading/gaming backlog. Too much stuff to do, so little time / too much xenoblade.

Mine came out to 158MB, and that was with 384MB dictionary size and 128 word size. This is why I wish I had 16GB of RAM. Check your PMs in a sec.

Don't take it too hard, guys. Looks like it's just very few textures that use the same ID, right? So don't regard the 'FAST' texture pack as undone or anything Smile
All your great work didn't just get broken or anything (well, except for those very few textures I guess Wink )
