Well, doing one for each setting wouldn't make any sense. If SAFE wasn't a big performance killer (I don't know if it even is) and if you had had this knowledge from the start and dumped everything with SAFE then that would be the only pack needed. Now, obviously, that would undo all the work you have already done, so f**k that and just continue what you're doing. Stuff looks very good and a few textures missing here and there won't be a big thing for the user. (I guess it'll sting your perfectionists' eyes, though Wink )
Or is there any logic behind the different IDs, so one could write a super simple program to rename all files' IDs from FAST style IDs to SAFE style IDs? (except of course those few textures which share an ID right now).

Yes it is a blow below the belt, and it does nag at my OCD like no other. The big problem isn't renaming them, we have it easy there. The big problem is knowing what to name them to, which can only be achieved by dumping them, which is a very time consuming process. I am not sure of the speed loss from fast to safe, and I don't have an older PC to even test it. Maybe when this pack was started, Dolphin was slower and slower computers were normal.

That won't work without a huge amount of work (basically involving taking an unmodified dump, converting it back to the native data and recalculating all hashes from that).

I second that, and it doesn't seem to be a huge recurring issue. At least, I don't think so anyway. So far in only 3 circumstances has an incorrect texture ended up somewhere it shouldn't have. Starting all over at this point is not an option for any of us, at least not now anyway. If custom texture behavior ever gets changed for the better in Dolphin, and compatibility with this pack becomes broken, then it would be worth it. If the intention of Dolphin devs is to someday get it fixed anyway, there is no point in redumping now because that means it would have to be done again twice (once now, once after its fixed).

Edit: After I'm done with the maps, and we get a new version out, I am going to play the game over again. This has been my intention from the start. I could "start" on a new texture pack at "Safe" since dumping is just one of the side effects from playing. But with that said, I am not going to rush my game, I want to slow play and enjoy it this time, and I'm probably not going to have the free time I do now. It could be month(s) before it even comes close to being as complete as it is. If I understood neo correctly, at safe random paletted texture IDs come up a lot less, so it might not need 80k textures, maybe only 60k, or even 40k? No idea.

Yeah it sucks, but I don't think it's going to happen often enough to make a huge difference

I'm up to Bionis' Interior, about to head into Makna. Probably going to finish the stuff I'm going to 7zip to you, Bighead. What were your recommended settings for 7zip compression?

I'm assuming you are using the GUI, so.... LZMA compression method, dictonary size of 512MB, word size of like 128 or higher, solid block size: Solid. This will take a lot of RAM, but 8GB should cover it if you have almost next to nothing else running. A higher dictionary/word size would be even better compression, but will take a long time and might require more RAM than 8GB.

EDIT: Just to throw something out there, does anyone else have this strange depressing feeling that is somewhat similar to something like when you're favorite pet dies? LOL I feel like I just got home from a funeral or something.

Okay, cool. I'll probably start zipping it in about an hour here. Did you want to send me yours too or are you still working on it? I'm not sure if you want to finish your Maps before you send me your stuff, or what. If that's the case, I'll wait to send you what I have until I dump a bit more.

I'm asking because I'm probably going to restart my NG+ after I get your stuff and reset all of my levels and play at a very leisurely pace and do all of the side quests. Probably take me at me close to a couple weeks to finish up. I'll probably have more stuff dumped from doing that. Part of the reason I want to play it that way is to test out what we both have together, and dump anything I can get that we don't already have. I'm going to keep whatever I dump after our merge separate from the rest of my load folder so I can eventually send it to your for an update.

So if you're done dumping, send me your stuff and I can just add your maps to what I have as you finish them Smile

We could wait until I test out what we both have, but I feel like two weeks is a long time to push this back just to get some more dumps. I just did Colony9 to Makna and only got 2k new textures compared to the 30kish I had at this point last time. So, there are still IDs out there. But it's going to be a long time before we fill in more. Let me know what you think we should do.

Edit: Haha, why feel like that? Because of the whole IDs using two textures thing?

I'm probably not going to do any more dumping, so I'll just pack up what I have so we can merge our stuff. This can even give you an early start on comparing some stuff if you want. I only have a few more maps to make, im about 45% done with bionis' leg. I should have all maps done by tomorrow if not, then the next day. I ended up taking a nap after learning the news or I'd probably be done with it by now. It was like that bit of info about the texture cache sucked the life out of me.

Where we go after this I'm not sure. If you caught my previous edit two or three posts ago, I was thinking about playing the game over again only at "Safest" setting and dumping all new textures, but not put forth crazy amounts of effort like this time. Slow play the game, enjoy it, because I won't have the free time that I do now. I doubt you are willing to do the same, and I would never expect you to, because then you wouldn't even get to enjoy all the hard work you put forth. It would be like a reboot, a whole new pack from scratch (besides already having the retextures themselves).
