Someone other than me might have to help out on this since I don't use the xbox controller buttons and have no idea where to set the buttons.

Here's the pack (20MB):
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4552780/SX4P01_dump.zip

None of the Xbox filenames can be found in that list, which explains the issue. I'll go through the 1500 textures to isolate the ones for Wii controls, then try renaming the Xbox ones accordingly. Hopefully you have a more automated manner Smile

Btw I'm curious why I'm having this issues if the guys who made the button icon pack didn't.

I've been thinking of why that might be the case and I think you have to enable the Wii Classic Controller instead of the Wiimote. I think that will account for the 2 more extra textures not in the Wiimote set and explain why the file names are all weird.

That was it! I was using Wiimote + Nunchuk because the Xenoblade Chronicles gameplay thread mentioned this as a good control setup. Changing to Classic Controller displays the Xbox button icons. PS3 buttons too.

Could you update the Installation section of the readme so that other newbies know how to do this?

Thanks for your help!

No problem and definitely. I wasn't aware of the problem myself.

There are no better ones. You choose what textures you want to put in. You're going to have to test and see which ones you like. If you're talking about the menu icons not working, those don't work a lot because we don't have all the textures from the game. Almost everything else should be retextured.

If you want more specific help, you're going to need to say what specific textures aren't working for you.

At the first look i thought that grass has not been retextured, but I will check that moment again.

I'm not too fond of the current xbox button textures. First they are smaller than original art and secondly they have white ugly ring around them. It's distracting on dark backgrounds. Original icons have dark borders. So I played around in Photoshop again. Here are some side to side screenshots (original, current v4.0U and my new ones):
And one example from menu screen with dark background as well.
Old one:

New one:

While I was comparing those screens I noticed that shadow is missing from that light grey/beige stats screen (old one with Shulk screenshot above). In original version it has shadow. In fact shadow is missing from all similar light grey windows in other submenus. Again Photoshop time for me. You can see outcome on that New one screenshot above. I think shadow adds quite a lot to presentation.

All game texture files I have edited can be downloaded here:

In case of anyone is interested.

There are no noticeable grass retextures (or any terrain retextures) in the pack either because no one retextured them or because I didn't feel they were good enough.

I noticed that dialog screens, especially loot pop-up screen is still in original low res. One will see so often this window in the game so maybe it's worth to upgrade it. Since my 3d art creation skill is non existent I reused some textures from very same v4.0U texture pack. Here below is 1 original and 2 upgraded examples.

What do you think? Is it worth investigating further? One thing thing to consider is that we are drifting away from original game creators design. Some might not like that.

I'm personally not a fan of moving away from the original art as well. Which is why I don't use the avatars and a number of other things.

However, I think the GUI retexture is fine. I think the majority can agree that they would rather play with the nice HD retextures than have those fuzzy images. My only gripe with the past GUI texture was that it was in blue. But who am I to complain when Alekzanderk made the majority of the textures. It was still extremely nice without a doubt.

Basically, to clear up how I'm trying to make this pack work, I'm very picky about things that made the game what it is. People don't play Xenoblade Chronicles for the GUI. A lot of people play it because it's simply visually stunning, which is why I haven't added any terrain real terrain retextures. Unless I'm proven wrong about what I said, I'm not going to put the Skyrim grass textures or the Zelda water textures in the pack.

What I'm trying to say is, yes it's fine. Go for it because it's an overlookable part of the game that doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.

I can also teach you a bit if you want and you can try to take a stab at making it more original. I'm not masterful but I know a few things. Tongue
