Maybe Windows 8/8.1 is more of a memory hog (although I do love it over Windows 7 tbh). This is my RAM usage with a few things open: Firefox, Winamp, GIMP, GlovePIE, and Dolphin. Most if this is probably GIMP though. Tongue Firefox also seems to gobble down quite a bit of RAM, and well, Winamp and GlovePIE probably don't even matter in the equation.

I haven't used Windows 8 yet. I still love 7, but I was one of those people who used XP until Windows 7 was already out for a year. Skipped right over Vista.

Yes, Firefox is a beast. And I probably had that open too (though I always do). I wasn't really thinking when I posted that, apparently. I mean, I didn't have much open (besides Photoshop) that I usually don't have open anyway and usually hover around 3000-3500 MB. So I kinda flipped when I saw that in a screenshot.

Anyway, I found the original creator of the xbox 360 buttons website and he has 50% higher res buttons (xbox 360 buttons in the pack are low res and look like trash at anything over 1080p). But they all need a slight canvas resize and some of them need some slight mods, so I'm going to work on them for a bit. I've been rotating between dumping for a couple hours and messing around in photoshop for a couple hours so I don't lose my sanity. Although working on that socket wasn't much of a break from dumping, lol.

The only thing that sold me on Win8 when I tried it in VirtualBox was the metro start menu. I seen a lot of animosity towards it but honestly, I think it's nice with some configuration. (Don't mind the "censored" location and the 'man' looking princess peach. 4000+ images and it randomly displayed that one LOL.)

I've only had win 8.1 a few weeks and I don't have many games installed yet (mostly indie ones atm). I play on emulators a lot more than PC games these days if you can tell, guess I'm just a nut for the old skool classics. Now that I have the metro screen, I dunno what I'd do without it. Tongue It pretty much is the only huge difference between 7 and 8 that I can see. For those that don't care about it, well, there's no reason for win8. I have win7 as a dual boot but I never load it up anymore. 22GB that I'll eventually have to get rid of.

I'm getting off topic though... I see you didn't delete photoshop if you plan on doing those buttons. Tongue If you need a hand just let me know, but I think you can get it taken care of. Considering how well you cleaned up my button corners, you're skills are improving. I've been at these maps all day and while I'm making progress, I should have been done by now. I keep getting way too distracted, like typing up this long pointless post for instance.

Yeah, I have nothing against Win8 personally, 7 just does everything I need it to atm.

90% of the games I play are emulated or indie games, so I hear you there.

And yes, haha, photoshop is still here. Although I did bust GIMP out for a few things today I find easier to do there. I got most of the icons right, some of them are a bit trickier. Some of them also have a fading shadow thing that looks bad. They need some work, I'm done with them for now though.

Alright, what is this gem socket that's busting your heads? Where can I find it? The one in the"change equipment" screen?

That would be it. I did a really bad version that I'm linking. It appears to be facing out instead of in.
..and the normal one too.

I think the problem is it needs lighting and shadow effects to be convincing. And I tried, but no matter what I did it turned out bad. I didn't try airbrushing which I should have, I was relying on GIMPs version of bevel to do everything for me. And it didn't, you're looking at "reverse bevel" and all it did was change the darker and lighter parts around. It didn't make it anymore convincing at all.

Aaah. Even the original looks like that when upscaled. Adding inner shadows would go a long way, but the bevel is kinda hard to pull off for this case, since it's mostly used for outwards stuff. I'll give it a try, see if I can get a headache out of it too Big Grin

I wish you the best of luck too. If there's anyone here that can pull it off and make it convincing, it's you. Tongue

My terrible attempt actually does look alright in game. I was mostly convinced it was a cavity but there were still times when I looked at it just right that it looked like a brown gem that was carved out of the exterior of the bar.

This is definitely complicated. I don't know who's bright idea it was to put that light there at the bottom.

Anyway, here's my attempt. I'm kinda moving in the right direction, I think. Maybe?

That actually looks similar (except way better quality) to what I was trying to do with it (putting the darker "strip" along the better right corner "inside" the socket). You pulled it off way better, but yeah, the light source is in a weird spot.

But to me it still looks like it's protruding out instead of being a socket. If I look at it hard it almost looks like a socket :p

It may just be impossible.

I think it's a step in the right direction. Would it make sense to put a bit of light in the top left corner since the source is coming from the bottom right? I don't know. I guess since the light shouldn't be going inside of it, I guess that doesnt make much sense.
