Alright guys, I promise it will be released soon. Busy with life as well. I need a quick opinion on the Kothlis Razor level. I've basically been re-tweaking a lot of the textures (now that I have got a handle of custom texturing, so I want to do a proper job), and I have tweaked the Kothlis planet a bit too. Now, just wondering, would you guys prefer the original blue Earth-like planet, or does this look better? Is there too much of a dark shadow on this one? Let me know.

Newer ones are more impressive to me.

Hey Han, I can't wait until the next release. I don't know if you've seen the Xenoblade thread lately, but we've been digging into why custom textures lag so much and degasus came up with a great solution: make textures stay cached after they're loaded. This means that once Dolphin loads the textures (this is where the lag and stutter occur), the texture will stay cached until you close the game, and thus no more lag will occur after that initial load, so even if you spin around, enter and exit cockpit mode, exit and re-enter the level, the game will play smoothly. Basically, the stutter and lag are still going to be there, but only once every time you load the game, as opposed to every time you see the textures in-game.
Here's degasus' new build. With this, You can feel free to use Higher resolution textures again. The initial lag will be worse, of course. Edit: And I agree, the newer ones fit the stage better. 03-02-2015, 02:55 AM
That's awesome!

By the way, is the latest master build (4.0-5718) using the new fix by degasus? Or just the link you provided? Also, with respect to the planet, even though it looks good, it doesn't fit the level fully. The Star Destroyer falls into the darker side of the planet, and it just doesn't blend at certain angles. I will use that planet texture for another level. 03-02-2015, 05:19 AM
Now I don't need to spend time tweaking. I can finally go back to the raw data and work on higher-res'd textures!
I haven't tested, but not quite yet, it seems. Although the "TEXTURE_KILL_THRESHOLD" fix in Master 5716 should help reduce the lag/stutter from texture loading. So use Revision 5716 and later for better texture loading, but use the one above for having the textures stay cached. This change will eventually make it to master, so no worries .
I'd use degasus' build for now, however. Edit: Yeah, the latest revision still stutters, though it's much less extreme than before because of the change I mentioned. |
