I'm having issues with saving controller profiles and memory cards.

Controllers:

My Switch controller connect to my PC, and Dolphin recognizes it and lets me change the inputs as I please. However, trying to create a profile to save those inputs results in the profile not appearing anywhere.

Memory Cards:

The issue used to be that clicking "..." in the Gamecube tab of the config menu would take me to a menu where I was supposed to choose where to save the memory card, only issue being that it wouldn't let me save the memory card anywhere. I did find a fix for this, moving the Dolphin folder from "Programs" to "Documents", but now instead of not being able to save, attempting to save results in an error popup to appear no matter what I named it (error 123: the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect).

I've spent all night looking up fixes, but they all mention folders that I can't for the life of me find.

My file setup looks like this:

This PC > (User) > Documents > Dolphin

From the Dolphin folder, there are two folders (Languages, which I assume is self-explanatory, and Sys), the actual launcher for Dolphin, a text document named license, an application extension named OpenAL32.dll, and the uninstaller.

From Sys, there are seven folders (GameSettings, GC, Maps, Resources, Shaders, Themes, Wii) and two files names codehandler.bin and totaldb.dsy

Most "fixes" I found then lead me to the GC folder, which contains:

Four .bin files (dcp_coef, dsp_rom, font_ansi, and font_sjis) as well as a text document named font-licenses

Sorry if this is too long. Does anyone have a solution for my saving troubles?

To clarify, if you click the dropdown for profiles in the controller screen, do you see the name of your profile, or no?

I wouldn't have your Dolphin.exe in the Dolphin Emulator folder in Documents, and it may be the cause of your issues. I'd suggest you move that whole folder to your Desktop as a backup, then re-download Dolphin from the download page (get the latest dev build by scrolling down). Then, extract that folder to anywhere that isn't directly Documents or Programs (what I do is Documents > Emulators > Dolphin). Then go through setup again.

When I click the dropdown, I see no names at all.

I'll try what you suggest, and hopefully I don't bonk it up.

EDIT: So I've moved the previous download to a folder on my desktop, and redownloaded Dolphin to Documents > Emulators, like you said you did, but unfortunately I seem to have the same issues as before, being that my settings aren't saved, I can't set a memory card, and it doesn't remember where I told it my games directory was (I didn't mention that last part in the first post, but that's been an issue the whole time), so it looks like I bonked it up.

Something that may be of note, though, is that the popup requesting permission to collect data appears every time I launch Dolphin.

EDIT 2: I tried a little bit on my own, and turns out I have a new problem with memory cards. Turns out I was an idiot and didn't actually name the card anything. So now it won't tell me I'm using the wrong characters, but much like the controller profiles, the memory card won't show up. I also tried running Dolphin as an administrator, but that sadly didn't do anything to fix anything.

If you right-click the Documents folder, do you have full read/write permissions for your user?

I do have read/write permissions, but the folder was set to read-only. I changed it now, could that possibly be the issue?

Sadly, that didn't help. It wasn't even set to read-only to begin with, it just looked like it was. What I've done now is move the whole Emulators folder to the Downloads folder, but that didn't seem to solve anything. The directory still doesn't save, the controller profiles don't save, and I'm dumb.

In the folder where you have Dolphin.exe, create a blank .txt file and have the name of it be "portable.txt"
This will run Dolphin in a portable mode and not use the global directory.

I've only just now been able to test that out, and it solved every problem except memory cards (but I think that's just me not knowing how they work). Thanks so much!
