Seik Wrote:So...what's going on? Reading these three 'notes', my guess is that, to load textures, the version of Dolphin used absolutely needs to be installed (with textures being in 'Documents') or it will ignore any direction you'll give it concerning textures...

I'd like to point out that Dolphin/user/textures is not the location to put things anymore. The global user directory means your "user folder" is now in My Documents. That "Dolphin Emulator" folder is where textures should go. For example: C:\Users\[your username]\My Documents\Dolphin Emulator\Load\Textures\[GameID]\. The only way to make the old location work is to use portable.txt, which sucks.

Not going to happen. There was one stable release - 4.0. But then a critical error was found, and even though Dolphin had progressed beyond 4.0, the devs went back and fixed that bug in 4.0. Then another another critical error was found, and even though Dolphin had progressed even MORE beyond 4.0, they went back and fixed the bug. 4.0.2 is just 4.0 with bug fixes. The latest development version, where Dolphin actually is in it's progression, is (as of this writing) 4.0-1977. Soon (very soon) there is going to be a new stable - 4.5.

First point: Yeah, that's what I thought after discovering that it was taking everything there automatically after clearing the .ini, I was still used to the old way of switching builds.

The way it is now is way more convenient though, kudos for that!

Second point: Well, now that I don't have to deal with this texture problem anymore I wasn't in any rush for another stable build, you guys are doing your stuff and you want to do it nicely. I totally understand that!

....

...But that 'very soon' got me hyped as hell. :O

I don't think it sucks at all, I think it makes total sense when dealing with frequent new builds.

Currently using developer build - Dolphin 5.0-7437

1. I inserted portable.txt and it created User folder in the Dolphin root folder, I moved my Textures to the User/Load/Textures/*.* . Things worked perfectly, Then they didn't.
2. I removed the portable.txt and things worked again so I moved my textures back, It now claims 24MB of textures loaded in 1 second and no visible texture changes in the game lol

That's how these things go when it's a new build.

I hope this information saves some mammals from some mental anguish.

I also would like to thank you for reminding me about portable.txt

Cool
