Current setup:

i7 4790K @ stock
ASUS Z97-A motherboard
ASUS Nvidia GTX 1060 Strix OC 6GB
Corsair XMS3 DDR3 16GB
Fractal Design Newton R3 1000W
Noctua NH-D15S
2 mechanical hard drives (1TB and 2TB)
Fractal Design Define R6 Black
Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016

New parts bought:

G.Skill 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL16 Ripjaws V
Intel Core i7 7700K 4.2 GHz 8MB
ASUS STRIX B250H GAMING

Absolutely no one have been positive to this and I'm starting to regret this purchase.

I'm thinking I have made a terrible choice here, only problem 8700K and 8086K isn't compatible with Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 that's why I bought the 7700K to begin with.

But everywhere I read 4790K vs 7700K and 7700K vs 8700K no one recommends the 7700K and it's a really hot chip even with the Noctua NH-D15S idle and stock clock.

Total money spent 640$

I feel like an idiot really, what should I do?

The reason is it's a pretty small upgrade for $640.

It's not really a bad configuration, it's just not really cost efficient of an upgrade. New build, sure. But the 4790K was no slouch. I've overclocked mine to 4.7 ghz and can match the Skylake equivalent of it in some, very specific tests.

I'm starting to realize this now and that I have made a mistake.

Would it be at least feasible to keep these parts as backup if something would happen to my current setup? Or would you recommend returning it altogether?

I'd just return it.

I guess that settles it then, because no one have said different.

Thanks for chiming in!
