Harvest Moon Animal Parade problem rev.5889

At the very beginning of the game the sprite talks to you but it looks like the event that makes the text flow is broken. Only the first letter of what he is about to say will appear. You then have to press A to see the whole text but after a short while you encounter a text bubble that you cannot skip trough. At this point nothing shows up in the bubble and the game stays like this "waiting" for the event to occur.

Happens on DX9/11, OpenGL. I had OpenCL on at the time but taking it off did not solve the problem.

CPU: i7 - 720QM
Video: RadeonHD 5870M Catalyst v.10.6 (latest)
Latest DirectX runtimes
Windows 7 64bits

afaik this issue has been there forever but seems to get worse in recent svn indeed, the workaround is to enable efb to ram in graphic plugin.

Thanks for the reply!

I tried checking on and off pretty much anything that looked like that in the DX11 plugin as it does not have this option per se. However this did little to solve the problem... For the OpenGL plugin, this option was already selected and the problem is still current.

I am now trying builds at random to see if I can get it to work on one and I'm up to 5748 and still no dice.

It works fine in the official version 2.0 but it is unbearably slow.
Update:

Went down to rev. 5630 and this time it works with dx9 (no dx11 in that rev). However it is as slow as the official 2.0 release.

So I went up a bit to 5771 and while there is no change to the dx9, the dx11 works for the first time. It is, however, unplayable as it takes about 15 secs. for a letter to appear after the 1st one and so on.

Let me know if this helps you any.

Update your directx to june 2010 for dx9 in later revision to appear and as you said enable efb to ram is slow, there's no way around it. Though in later revision there's hybrid version of efb to ram and texture that should make it faster but i haven't tried it yet with animal parade.

You only need to enable efb to ram in cutscene though as we can skip dialogue in any other situation, so yeah, just bear with it :p. Also, this game is inherently slow, both in Wii and Dolphin and seems not being affected by cpu clockspeed past certain GHz.

Yeah, I already have the latest version of the directx runtimes, unfortunately that did not fix it Sad You might be on to something with the hybrid efb to ram in the later revisions. I have noticed that with the latest revisions, both dx11 and dx9 will have the dialog problem. In the older revisions however this was more of a dx11 issue.

I wonder if anyone would have a fix for the later rev's dx11 or dx9 plugins as those are the only ones with which the game seems to be playable.

Have you tried the Safe Texture Cache: Safe?
Most of the text problems can be fixed by Enable Safe Texture Cache.
Some game also need to select "safe" instead of normal and fast to make the text readable.
Copy to ram only make graphic more accuracy and appear missing texture.

Update directx runtime only need when the plugins not appear...
If you have some graphic problems may be you should update display card driver instead of directx runtime...

Yeah I did. For both dx11 and dx9 safe texture cache (any option) will not solve this problem.

Now, I can Play at 60FPS or 30FPS 60VPF SPEED 100%.
At Town, the Speed go to 93%... but is still high!
Good job!

But...
r6058, the game stops. Becouse can't skip the text...
The game stops just at the beginning and every time I unlock a bell.
When it stops, can not play anymore. Neither change "EFB copy" to RAM...
to continue I have to change the review to Dolphin 2.0.

Ah, one more thing, it seems, is appearing random sounds when changing senary.

At Dolphin 2.0 "EFB copy" to RAM the text flows well with low FPS
now we have high FPS but the text doesn't flows anymore. =\

I'm getting the same speeds on r6060 that I get on 2.0

I'm sticking to 2.0 because the r6060 doesn't have "EFB copy" to RAM for Dx11.

I don't know if this has any relevance, executing "Dolphin.exe /d" appears these messages:
Somebody forgot to unlock PPC reg 3
Somebody forgot to unlock PPC reg 4
Somebody forgot to unlock PPC reg 5
Somebody forgot to unlock PPC reg 6
Somebody forgot to unlock PPC reg 8
Somebody forgot to unlock PPC reg 11

More often:
Somebody forgot to unlock PPC reg 3
Somebody forgot to unlock PPC reg 4
