Thought you were talking about Matrox G400 then I remembered we're talking about KB/M. NV/ATI/3dfx/Matrox flamewars were more entertaining than today's console wars.

I don't think I've ever had the issue that my keyboard has stopped me from typing, or stopped me from winning a game, but I didn't really feel my cheap mouse was holding me back until I'd used a G400 for thirty seconds. That's disappointing, because now I know I'll have to spend money at some point.

Yeah, after a long journey. I didn't know people could forget to put the front panel connectors on the mainboard ._.

ExtremeDude2 Wrote:So your telling me I can sit a foot away from my screen and nothing will happen? Depends on the brightness, type of backlighting system, and type of diffusion system used. Like Rachel said it can cause eyestrain. This gets worse at closer distances because your eye absorbs more light and thus perceives a higher brightness. RachelB Wrote:I don't understand the appeal of backlit keyboards. Who the heck looks at their keyboard ever? Only time it's ever been useful for me is when I need to find my keyboard in complete darkness and don't want to fumble around trying to feel it or turn the lights on because I'm too lazy. If it costs the same as the non-backlit version (which is usually does) then I say why not? DatKid20 Wrote:What gaming mouse do you guys recommend using? Logitech G500 or anything similar. If you want a cheap mouse from a semi-reputable company cooler master has some good gaming mice in the $30-50 range. DatKid20 Wrote:I've been looking at some Logitech gaming mouses but the one I want is $80. Is that normal? Yes. Good technology is pricey regardless of the device. MaJoR Wrote:I've never had that problem. And I always thought the G400 was incredibly ugly. Me either. And I generally have some hair on my mousepad from my cat. For me the G500 is easily worth the extra money for the extra buttons alone. garrlker Wrote:Speaking of peripherals, what gaming keyboards can you all recommend? Budget? Typical use? Typing pressure preference? Noise preference? Etc.

50-100 bucks. Preferably closer to 50. No preference on pressure, not loud, and gaming/programming.

$50 for a mechanical keyboard. Hahahaha. I love this guy. So what's your real budget?

A "cheap" mechanical keyboard is $80, and the high end runs into the $200. If your budget is $50 you pretty much should just get a high quality rubber-dome keyboard. I'm rather fond of my Razer Arctosa Silver, personally.
Since I'm on the subject... I hate mechanical keyboards. It's just not my thing. Mechanical keyboards have big clunky keys and insanely long keytravel. Sure they activate half way, but why not just cut the keytravel to half and let you press it all the way? And why not make the keys shorter? Meh. I definitely think mechanic keyboards are a bit stuck in hipster limbo, mimicking 30-40 year old keyboards. Why not bring mechanical switches to something more modern? Flat and thin keys and super short keytravel for me, whether rubber-dome or not. I suppose my very rapid typing could adjust to a these fat keyed mechanical keyboards and half-presses, but mechanical keyboards are very expensive and I simply don't like those fat-keyed hipster boards.
