It's pretty factual that these prototypes will be around this size considering valve said it themselves.

I can't seem to find any source where they directly said that.

While you're probably right I don't see anything conclusive on that. Certainly not enough to call it a fact. And they definitely haven't said or even implied that they won't offer larger systems than the prototype. Hell the only time I see them mention size on the steam machine official page is here in the FAQ:

We promise we'll tell you more about it soon.
In other words T.B.A.

Anyone care to ballpark the single-threaded IPC of the upcoming Bay-Trail (Silvermont) Celerons in comparison to other generations of Intel hardware? I'm looking to eventually buy a NUC DN2810FYK whenever it comes out next year, and I'm just curious about how it would do. Granted, we don't have (much) data, anyone's informed estimate is probably better than mine.

I'm pretty sure I'm done with ARM CPUs as it relates to my emu console. My U2 is very close to my ideal system (I still never showed you guys pictures, the lighting in my loft is terrible though) but underpowered for some types of emulation (Mednafen's SNES + PSX modules) and I'm not willing to bet on any A15 boards. Then there's the whole driver issue getting OpenGL up and running. At least with Intel, I know Mesa supports just about every IGP Intel's released to the public so far (at least anything released that I want to actually buy).

The NUC DN2810FYK hits all the right points for me. It's compact, it's low-priced (I can probably get it with some RAM + storage for around $225 altogether), the CPU shouldn't generate nearly as much heat as the other Ivy Bridge based NUCs, and the Intel HD4000 is more than enough for PSX and N64 games in HD. There's also 64-bit Slackware to sweeten the deal. I just wish they'd hurry up and sell it already.

What do you want me to compare it against specifically? We have plenty of data. More than enough to do accurate comparisons.

The gigabyte brix might be up your alley.

Really? Wonderful. The only data I saw was something Anandtech did with testing the "tablet" versions of the upcoming Silvermont CPUs, so I didn't know if that would be enough (or if people have already had their hands on the hardware, and I'm just clueless). I know everyone's probably sick of hearing about my Pentium Dual Core T3400, but it really is the weakest Intel CPU I have to set as a baseline. My laptop runs everything great at 1GHz, so I'm hoping the upcoming N2810 will surely be able to match that, at least.

If you could give me some insight on how Silvermont would perform against Pentium Dual Cores (Allendale and Merom-2M, if there's any difference between the mobile and desktop versions). I'm curious how it would perform in relation to our old retired family computer with an E2200 in it as well. Notebook check ranks the N2810 lower than my T3400, but there have been no benchmarks on it (specifically Cinebench) so that adds to my uncertainty about performance.

Do you guys think i should sell my xbox 360 and the games i have for it for my new pc? I don't play it so it's just been sitting there doing nothing. I also wanted to sell my wii but decided against it since I can still play project m on it and use it as a emulator box.

Is it a reference design?

Did you even search?
