Be aware of the alignment if you are going to clone a HDD to a SDD. I have personally seen a large performance drop (30% - 50%) on clones that are not aligned:

Had to order a new top/io panel and front panel for my case from Cooler Master. The plastic was cracked or broke as well as some plastic parts securing the panels to the steel frame case. The old top/io panel had a piece of metal fall out from between the two usb port, I failed to keep it secured tightly when re-inserting and kept falling out whenever I removed a usb cable. My gripe with the replacement top/io panel is the wires for usb that plugs to the motherboard and other wires appear to be really thin and cheap like it wouldn't take much to break or come loose. For that reason I salvaged the wires/cables from the old io panel which are still good and interchangeable just in case. For a cheap replacement of the top/io panel it was expensive like $39.99, front panel was $12.99 and an accessory kit incl wheels for my case plus bits and pieces I lost was $14.99. Total cost was $67.97 and I had to pay $15.99 for shipping which took one day short of a week to finally get to me after it was shipped out.

I also need to learn proper cable management to keep my case tidy for better airflow.

That article recommends a utility to do the transfer, but it doesn't look like it would handle moving a completely full terabyte drive to a 128GB SSD especially well. Is there something a little smarter that I could use, even if it's just GParted?

Well, after reading the article, I checked my alignment.

Conclusion: the cloning software packaged with my Samsung 840 Evo did align everything correctly, nothing to worry about there. So AON...

...if you do get an 840 evo, you can just use the included utility.

That sucks with the price.

Speaking of that, however, I will probably need to replace the front panel on my Haf X too... One of the USB 3.0 ports is broken, and the USB2 ports have a faulty connection which means that they simply don't work 90% of the time. So as a result I only have 1 working USB port on my front panel, and even that looks like it might break at some point in the not too distant future...

^ The usb ports are on the top/io panel btw which is the most expensive ($39.99) piece. You may want to salvage the cables like I did cause the wires on the replacement for the usb, 1397, front panel audio seem very frail and cheap. I don't trust it and it looks like it wouldn't take much to break the wire or for it to pull out of the connector so I kept the old cables. One thing I do like is how they did the usb 3.0 ports so instead of plain usb cables it's a higher grade connector although it's more bulky than plain usb cables.

Ok. Seems like 2015 will be a year of massive upgrades, with a new CPU, mobo, GPU and RAM for me.

Why's the motherboard go in upside-down?
